Thankyou madeira066 and mshrmh for your contributions, but as mshrmh notes I had covered most of this research already.

I believe the above named was born in December1890 in Rochdale, son of Walter Chadwick and Hannah Williamson. I would be pleased to hear from anyone with any knowledge of his marriage, career, etcetera.

Thank you all for your contributions, but I think that I have now come up with the solution after a hard day's work.
Fanny Wilcock, nee Williamson, had a sister Hannah who married Walter Chadwick, a Licensed Victualler, from Littleborough. They had six children, one of whom was named Robert Nepaul Chadwick, born about December 1890 in Manchester. He appears on the 1891 and 1911 censuses with his parents, but not on the 1901 when they were managing a pub in London. It seems most likely to be he who was being looked after by Fanny in 1901, and either by her say so or by the census clerk's assumption he was listed as a Wilcock.
Phew.

In 1901 Fanny Wilcock (nee Mary Ann Williamson) was at 51 the widowed head of her family, a Confectioner (Shopkeeper), at 86 Great Ancoats Street, Manchester. Also with her was her nephew, Robert Wilcock, aged 10, born Manchester, of whom I have no other information.
Fanny's late husband Thomas Wilcock had a sister Hannah who married Albert Clegg; they had two children, neither being called Robert; and a brother John who died in 1856.
Thomas and Fanny had six offspring, only one of whom, Amanda Wilcock born 1875, and died a spinster in 1938, could be a candidate for the mother, if the description of Robert as nephew really meant great nephew.
There are several Robert Wilcocks in the 1911, none born Manchester, and I cannot find a death that fits the bill.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks for rapid reply, Gillg.
The marriage was at Water Street, 23.08.1873. The couple were from Two Bridges, Newhey, near Rochdale and Haugh, near Rochdale.
I shall happily reimburse your scanning costs.

Bob.

Just bought a marriage licence 1873 Ebenezer Baptist Chapel between Thomas Wilcock and Fanny Williamson, fathers Alfred wilcock and George Williamson, minister Alfred Pickles, registrar James Williamson, witnesses Frederick Wilcock and Emma Porter Wilcock. I have Butterworths, Cleggs, and Taylors connected with the Wilcock and Williamson families, but not yet done much research on them. However I would be pleased to have more details of your book, particularly of any people with surnames as above, or, if you could possibly send me a .pdf file of the book?
