Suffolk Lookup Requests / Hitcham parish lookup - BROOKE/PARKE
« on: Monday 18 February 13 00:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Hitcham parish

Looking to confirm:

* Were George BROOK(E) (from Stanningfield) and Martha PARK(E) married in Hitcham in 1631?
(George's will in 1656 lists John PARKE as his brother in law)

* I think there may be christenings for the Martha's siblings in Hitcham:
Abagail (1616), Clement (1619), John (1621), Philip (1624) and Elizabeth (1628), all believed to
be children of William PARKE and his wife, who may have been called Abigail. Just looking to
confirm that these christenings did take place, and that I have their parents' names correct?

I believe Martha and her younger brother William were christened in Whatfield, in 1611 and 1614 respectively.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Michelle

I think he must have been removed from Potton to Shefford.

So, William married in Campton in 1775, and his first child was born around Campton in 1776.

When his next daughter Rebecca was born in 1777, he was living in Potton - his youngest child Mary was born in Potton in 1794, and his wife Hannah (Ann) died in 1808 in Potton.

This suggests that he had been living in Potton for some time, and was then removed back to Shefford.

Thanks very much for both of these replies.

This removal order would seem to confirm that the William Russell in Potton was originally from Shefford.

It seems strange that an 82 year old was sent back to Shefford, especially when he'd been in Potton for 39 years, and at least four of his children were living in Potton.

This may imply he did not have a good relationship with his children, as normally one of them would have taken him in, I think.

Thanks,
Michelle

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / Completed - Campton parish registers - RUSSELL/GREGORY

Hi,

If someone has access to these parish registers, I'd appreciate information on the following:

1. The marriage of William RUSSELL and Ann Mary GREGORY on 24th Sep 1775

I'm looking for any reference to William's occupation, and any reference to where William and
      Ann are from.

2. The christening of their child, Martha RUSSELL, on 27 August 1776

Again, hoping for any information on William's occupation

3. Possible burial of Martha on 16 October 1776

I'm trying to find evidence that William and Ann Mary moved to Potton, as I've got a William and a Hannah Maria Russell listed as strangers to the parish (Potton) for the christening of their child Sarah in 1777. The William in Potton was a fellmonger, and he and Hannah had a daughter called Martha in 1785.

Thanks in advance,
Michelle Bryant

My apologies for adding Sutton to the parish records. I have changed the subject of my post above so it only mentions Potton, to avoid inconveniencing anyone.

I realise that the IGI details are generally reliable. However, I have sometimes found that names in the IGI have been transcribed incorrectly compared to the original parish record. For instance, I found the IGI index listed one of my ancestor's names as Elizabeth Bartle, when in fact it was Elizabeth Butler.

The main reason I wished to confirm these details is that often other facts are written on the parish register, which are not included in the IGI index. Things like the bride and groom  home parish for marriages, or the father's occupation are sometimes found on christening records.  These are the sort of details I was after by asking to confirm these records.
