I’ll definitely pop them an email, thank you! I admit, I still struggle to find my way around the Proni website.

Thank you so much Kiltaglassan ☺️

Derry (Londonderry) / Maydown Trunk Road Improvement scheme 1960

Hi there, long shot but I wondered if anyone knew if there was a way to access or view the map referred to in the vesting order made for the lands in this article attached, in 1961? The two areas of land mentioned for Maydown belonged to my ancestors and I’d love to learn a bit more re the location / size of land they owned at the time. Thompson was the last to own the Ross farmland in Maydown and passed away in 1973 (no will) so I’m wondering if he just bit the bullet and sold the whole lot (he’d have been late 70/early 80 by this point); he had no children, his siblings had passed away and what relatives he had remaining he had become estranged from.

Thanks in advance for any guidance that can be offered  :)

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Thompson - Sault Ste Marie
« on: Tuesday 12 November 24 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Oh my goodness, this is amazing! I can’t believe how much has been found - how wonderful!

My Samuel did have a brother James, but I didn’t appreciate that he was “the” James Hayes Thompson. I wonder if it was his wife whose maiden name was Hostler, rather than his mother, as you suggest Lisa…

I’ll need to spend some time looking into this but how amazing, thank you! I’m keen to find more on this family and their descendants. I suspect a few of the family must have emigrated over from Ireland - from what I understand, the name Thompson is quite popular in the Sault Ste Marie area.

Thanks again

Canada Lookup Request / Thompson - Sault Ste Marie
« on: Tuesday 12 November 24 07:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,
This is a long shot but I’m trying to find an elusive ancestor from the Sault Ste Marie area of Ontario. An elderly relative remembers that a James H Thompson died young in a copper mine in the area. He recalls his mother’s maiden name being Hussler / Hustler (unsure of spelling). My relative is in his 90s and I’m unfortunately unable to obtain any further information at the moment, so I have no idea of when this actually happened.

I do know an ancestor of ours - Samuel Thompson - moved from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland (where the Thompsons came from) sometime before 1891, as he married a Martha Thompson in Montréal and by 1893 he started having a family - they can be seen in the 1921 census. So it is possible this James H was a brother, or could be a son, or could well in fact be part of Samuel’s wife’s Thompson family…

There’s not much to go on but I have exhausted my online searching efforts, and wanted to see if anyone on here could shed any light  :)

Thank you in advance for any guidance at all!

It did cross my mind… haha! But cause of death has been listed separately.

I’ve attached a section of it (hopefully this is ok!)

Tyrone / St John’s Church, Dunnalong

Hi,

My dad has mentioned that a fair few of our ancestors are buried in St John’s. I was wondering if anyone would know if this church kept records or if there is a way to find out who was buried here? I’m unsure if any of my ancestors have headstones but I know one, Matilda Ogilby, died roughly in the early 1960s (my dad’s grandmother) and is buried here. I’ve checked on Find a Grave but there are only 20 memorials recorded.

Apologies, I’m not really clued up on researching ancestry in County Tyrone, most of my research has been localised to County Londonderry and I’m in unchartered waters, so to speak :)

Thank you
Lara

Derry (Londonderry) / Sconce, near Coleraine
« on: Tuesday 13 August 24 11:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi, wondering if anyone can help. I located the death record for an ancestor, Matilda Ogilby, in Coleraine. Under her date of death, 28 February 1968, it states “Ramshorn” Sconce then R.D.

I think it’s referring to the Sconce area just outside Coleraine but unsure what the “Ramshorn” refers to… she was registered by her daughter who resided in Bushmills Road.

Thank you!
