Thanks so much for your information, interestingly he was referred to as James a couple of times in his convict life then always John when he was reporting on the gold fields in the New England area of New South Wales.

Also when I click on the link it is not working for some reason but thanks again for looking this up for me.

Have a great day.

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone can check if my information is correct regarding John Lockhart (alias John Bow/Bowes) who was convicted on the 28th December, 1832 at Strathclyde. I think the crime was "picking pockets" and he was sentenced to 14 years to Australia.

Thanks so much for your time.

Hi,

I just read your post and some names jumped out at me and might be worth a message to you. Catherine Hession born c1810 in Ireland. (Could this possibly be your James Hession's sister)?  She married John Hynes and their children Timothy, John, Phillip, Bridget and Michael all ended up in New Zealand around 1861. Phillip married a Cecilia Duggan around 1863 (not sure where as yet). Are any of these names in your records?

Thanks for your time.

Hi all,

Regarding the above message - I don't think that's our Hynes as John according to those dates would have been born c1786. Also the fact that Timothy and Philip Hynes went to New Zealand from Scotland on the ship "Storm Cloud".

Thanks so much for your fast reply. It says on his death certificate that he was born in Bath, Somerset but as has been proven before we can't always rely on correct info especially on death certificates. Edwin arrived in Australia onboard the "Zemindar" on 23rd August, 1857 from England to Botany Bay, Sydney, (Bounty). Edwin was 24 years old, a Blacksmith from Somerset, religion Independent, parents listed as James and Mary & could read and write - no relations in colony. I will follow-up with what you have sent me, you just may have solved my big drama!  Thanks so much!
