Thank you Rosie, I have checked those available on FindMyPast, without success. I live in Lancashire so don't have access to the Portsmouth records office.

I have now seen the birth certs for Olive, David and Esther and they all have the same mother. She is Amelia Chandler formerly Rawlings who died in 1917 at the age of 37 in Basingstoke so am happy that this is the right family. These families are all travellers so there have been many name changes and non-marriages along the way!

Thank you all for your massive help as I now have enough to proceed further.

The address on the 1921 is Parish of Portsmouth Children's Home, 138 St Mary's Road, Portsmouth, I believe it was added on to the workhouse.

Rosie99, that Chandler one looks very possible, I will investigate them.
Huge thanks

These are the ages from the 1921 census:
Rawlings Olive 13 yr 11m
Rawlings David 10 yr 1 m
Rawlings Esther 7 yr 4m
Rawlings Thomas 11 yr 11m

all stated to be born in Basingstoke, mother dead

Thank you

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / St Mary's Road Children's Home, Portsmouth help please

Hello

I am struggling to find any info on 4 children (Rawlings by name) who, in 1921, are resident in the St Mary's Road Children's Home.

I cannot find their birth records or any of them in 1911. I am hoping that there are some admission record or the like available somewhere?

Any help much appreciated

Surrey Lookup Requests / Re: Charles Fairman 1806 Beddington Surrey
« on: Sunday 21 January 24 13:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I received a message via GenesReunited regarding this thread because I have the Charles FAIRMAN born 1806 Beddington in my family tree. I am descended from his sister Sarah born 1811. Our common ancestor would be his father Joseph Fairman 1780 who is my g-g-g-g-grandfather.

Sadly I have no additional info re Charles, just his baptism.

Just a thought that my DNA is on Ancestry, have you tested Brian? If we came up as a match, albeit distant you would know it was this one?

Good luck

Thank you everyone, no closer to finding Agnes birth but have filled in a few dates for the wider family. The reason for this search is tackling a DNA match to this family so now stuck with needing info on those younger than 100 years. The search continues....
Thanks again

Thanks, that makes sense. That is the only place to search for Agnes' birth in 1892?

How weird, I just tried again but went in by a different route and got it.

Many thanks for that, definitely the right child there.

Thank you both

I chose the wrong weekend to go back to this brick wall! The GRONI site is also unavailable for full searches until tomorrow!

I already have the marriage cert for Agnes and Charles but had not seen any children. I will look into William further.  I believe the irishgenealogy site has a message on it saying that 1923 births have now been added so will see when it returns. I must admit I had forgotten the GRONI site so will definitely revisit.

Tomorrow is another day!

Thanks again
Heather
