« on: Saturday 13 November 10 12:36 GMT (UK)  »
I was looking at a couple of wills today. How do I know convert ye olde money into moden day weath...  ???

Let me explain...

In 1924 one of my ancestors left about £400.

In 1889 another  two ancestors left £400.

So what is that worth today? I've tried using google it's not very helpful...

Warwickshire / Canadian Ice hockey 1935
« on: Saturday 15 December 07 16:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I am investigating a family legend which unfortunately I have very little information.

The story I have involves a touring Canadian ice hockey team which were in Birmingham in May 1935 & probably more specifically Aston….

There isn’t a lot to go on here but that’s all I have.
I am a little computer tied & I am sure a trip to the library in Birmingham would reveal loads but  I am unable to make the trip. Can anyone help me out. I am not sure if it is a national Canadian team or what but either way I imagine such a thing would make the papers.

Cheers

Hi I wonder if anyone can help...

I know my grandparents divorced around 1942 & they lived in Aston Birmingham.

Can anyone tell me how to go about finding out any more information & where to look. Also what sort of info would any such document show?

Hi Jim

Thanks for your help. This is one of those family things where poeple stopped talking to each other about 'such things'.
Basically I have no information about the marrage at all. I can only guess at a date from when my Dad was born.

I know Norman & family were all born in & lived in the area for quite sometime.

Thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Marriage look up KITE / YOUEL

Hi I am looking for my grandparents marriage.

I have little firm information but I will give you what I know...

Norman KITE b.1902 Aston
Evelyn Mary YOUEL b.1906 Chapletown, Yorks.

I am fairly sure they would have married in Solihull.
My Dad was born in Jan 1936 & I believe Norman had been posted by the RAF over seas... So I am guessing they would have married before 1936.

Also they devorced around 1942. How do I go about finding more info?

Thanks for all help

Warwickshire / Re: Are you folowing this?

Hi I saw your post, & although I’m a little confused, I wondered if we might be  related…
I think our common ancestor maybe John HUGES b.1820 He married Sarah & had at least 6 children -
Edward b.1841,
John b.1844,
Thomas b.1849,
Emeline (Emily) b. 1852,
Henry b. 1855, &
Kate b.1860.

Edward is my ancestor. He & most of his children like John are involved in the gun trade.

Do you think we might be related?
