Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Hopefully someone will pick up on this thread and may shed some light on it too. I do find it a real challenge trying to get my head around the complexities and lack of the Irish records.

I hope you have a great time over the festive period.

Best wishes
John

Kingskerwell,

a few years back at the start of this thread you gave me some amazing info on my family which I am still extremely grateful for :
Now that I have began concentrating on my Irish heritage I was wondering if you could advise me as to where that info came from? what online research or database should I be using? I have my Irwins, on the 1901 census living in Methodist Lane in Limavardy then moving to Scotland (at least some of them) which can be seen on my Ancestry tree. http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/55888951/family?fpid=32203666755

John,
I think that I may have found your family.

26 Nov 1887 William Irwin of Grannagh Aghanloo married Elizabeth Irwin of Ballycastle Aghanloo.
They were married in Dungiven.

Known children were
12 May 1876 Margaret
15 Jun 1878  Elizabeth died 1878
1 Jul     1879 Mary
12 Nov 1881 Anne
5 Mar 1884   Thomas Charles
29 May 1886 William

The children were all born in Ballycastle Aghanloo

Any info would be great - just to add more info  - both William's and Elizabeth's mothers were McCluskeys and were probably at least cousins.

thanks
John

hi while searching for Divtts from Fermanagh I came across this entry in a book that is visible on Google Books - called Researching Irish Australians: Directory of Research With Will Abstracts and ... by Brian Trainor. It has this extract:

Hatherington, Noble (1803) l'town, County Ferm. married Jane Devitt. After her death emigrated Australia 1863.
