Stirlingshire / Re: Stevenson's from Bannockburn
« on: Monday 28 July 14 16:26 BST (UK)  »
I am still trying to locate my great grandmothers family that were supposedly from Bannockburn.  Story goes that Isabella Stevenson was born 20 September 1852 (give or take a few years) in Bannockburn.  We have her father’s name as John but no verification of that, no name for mother.  She migrated to the US according to our US Census is 1867-8 and was married in Will County, Illinois in 1870 to James Baird.  She had a nephew named William Bruce that was born in Illinois but keep coming to dead ends. I know that isn’t much information but any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Christy Baird

Wicklow / Re: Earls in Avoca, Wicklow

From all I have found he came to American as a young boy but no indication that he came with his parents.  His mother was Ann Develin and father James Earle from Avoca.  He had a sister Jane (born 1843) that supposedly came also and a younger brother John.  Have found James and John in Rockaway, New Jersey in 1870 but not sure that its the correct James.  I know from 1872 on where he was but its a mystery the years from Ireland to then.

Thanks for checking and anything else you may have I'd appreciate.

Thanks for responding, I'll keep looking and digging and hopefully something will come up.

Maybe something will come up on the New Kilpatrick cemetery.  I'm not sure where she died but James her last son was born at Netherton Coal Works in New Kilpatrick in 1846 and they were still living there in the 1851 census and she wasn't listed then or the 1861.

Thanks for your help. :)

I did see that and I'm puzzled as the next 2 census have him born in Ayr.  Not sure what to do next and how reliable the census was.   It could be why I'm not finding them in Scotland.  If you have any suggestions on what to do next please let me know.  Still trying to navigate all of this.  Thanks for the information.

Lanarkshire / Agnes Arthur Baird

I am trying to find where my GG Grandmother was from.  I have the following:
John Baird and Agnes Arthur were married 18, Mar 1832 in Barony, Lanarkshire. I have them in 1841 according to the Census living in Paisley Low, Renfrewshire with Robert (7), Lattazia (3), and John 1.  James my g-grandfather was born in 1846 in New Kilpatrick but by the 1851 census she wasn't listed and I assumed she had died.  I have no previous record of her or her mother or father or where she might have been born. Any information would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Christy

I'm not sure if we are of the same Stevenson's.  I know my Great Grandmother said she was from Bannockburn, born 20 Sept, 1852 and came over somewhere in the 1860's to America.  She married James Baird in 1870, Braidwood, Illinois.  I haven't been able to find her mother or father's name and don't know if she was accompanied by them.  I haven't been able to find her on a census in Bannockburn in 1851 or 1861.  Would love it if we could find a connection.

Shane,
Thank you for the information.  I will try and see if I can get on those sites and check it out.  The Marriage Register just has Avoca Parish, no address. Also, there was no name of James or Ann's mother or father listed.  Just the Best man and the Bridesmaid.

On the baptism record it just says Avoca Parish also.  Doesn't give any other information except the Godfather and Godmothers name.
