wacha,

I will send you a PM with my email address.
I haven't lived in Ireland since 1974, my brother returned on 1992 (the year my mother Elizabeth Boyd nee McCune died) and actually lived in a new build in Ballygowan for about 10 years. He now lives near Downpatrick.
My Grandfather William was the last brother and died on 31 January 1969. Samuel left the farm to William's only son Edwin. William was upset as he knew Edwin had no interest in the farm. Edwin had 3 children. I will be meeting up with their son (who lives in Kircubbin Co Down) for a break in Cornwall in May. Edwin rented the land out but eventually sold up and used the capital to buy a bungalow in about 1966.
The farm was called the Hawe but in the fifties a larger farm nearby owned by the Kerrs named their house the Hawe.
About 1985 the farm had electric and was being used to store hay and agricultural equipment. In 2002 it had been knocked down and a large house built on the plot. Couldn't get near to it due to gates and Private signs!
I looked at the graveyard in 2002 and remember my grandfather saying there was a great family row when a widow erected a gravestone. The family cut her off as they thought it was a waste of money which could have been better used for church or charitable purposes.
I remember Samuel used to call at my grandfathers in Madrid St Belfast on a Friday after he had been to the market in Belfast. He always carried a bible and even my religious grandmother found him hard going!
I only looked at the McCunes originally after I had had little success  tracing my father John Boyd's great grandparents.
This weekend Ancestery UK had a free weekend which was the reason I dug out my old records!
A distant relative, sent me a very poor photocopy of Sharons paper notes. He lives in Ireland but they were forwarded by his eldest brother who like me is in England. The Gibsons were originally from The Lessons Irelands Corner near Saintfield. Other relatives I used to remember visiting as a child were the Orr and the Burgess families. They had a sawmill near Shepherds Bridge.
I will have to speak to him as he knows how everyone is related! I think it was through his mother Isa. I intend to speak to my cousin in May and she if he knows any more than I do.

Regards,

Wuz

David McCune was my Great Grandfather and I have a record that he married Barbara McCormick on 30/6/1864 in Saintfield. Their son William was my Grandfather on my mothers side.

I spent many holidays on the family farm at "The Hawe" Ravara until it was sold by my uncle about 1965. The last family member to farm it was David's son Samuel who died unmarried in the 1950s.

I was sent some information given by Sharon Nisbett to a distant cousin. Unfortunately I lost some details when a computer failed about 12 years ago.
