Hi Alan, I don't mind you joining in at all.

I would not be surprised if there was a mistake on Familysearch.org having done some indexing for them, I have experienced at first hand their mistakes. (In Essex I have some relatives indexed to the wrong village name!)

Anyway, I have spent some time going thro' the 1841 census looking for Fishers in St Helens and St Nicholas area of Abingdon and I have found loads, especially living in Ock Street. All I've got to do now is look for a link...

I wish!

Jill

Sorry, thought it would link.
Here is the copy of the post from Brenda

I have a copy of the Admissions and Discharges 1875-1900 to the above
orphanage. Yes, I know it is not is Surrey, but it took orphans from all
over the country. Two of my Surrey family were there in the 1880s, their
father being a railway employee and killed in the course of his work I
would be happy to do a look-up for anyone who thinks they may have railway
connected orphans amongst their ancestors.

Thanks for all the replies, particularly DebbieG with those marriage details. I have very little information to go on so it all helps even if only to disprove a theory.
William (the son in Sheffield), his first child was called Elizabeth, so maybe his mother was Elizabeth???. I have just had a quick look at the 1841 census to see if there were any Fishers in Blewbury but so much is not transcribed as the writing is faded. So no luck with any other Fishers! As I can't find out his wife's maiden name either and I don't know where they married can't send for any certs.

I have a big bruise from banging against this wall  :'(

I wonder if any one can give me any help with William Fisher and Elizabeth Carey who married according to FamilySearch in St Nicholas Abingdon on 18th Dec 1770.

I think this couple had a son, William Fisher, b. abt 1780 who, in 1851 census, says he is from Abingdon, Berkshire. He is living then in Sheffield, Yorkshire where he has a wife Rebecca, who says she is from Sunderland.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Jill
