World War One / WW1 service in all three branches
« on: Sunday 04 November 12 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
My wife's grandfather, born 1898 in Cork, apparently served in the Army, the Royal Navy and the RFC during WW1.  Post-war, he lived, married and died in West London.  Not certain whether he left Ireland before WW1, and if so, where he enlisted.  His surname was Williams - pretty common - and a search of Army records is inconclusive.  I have not yet had an opportunity to consider RN or RFC/RAF records.  Does anyone have any experience of subjects serving in all three branches?  Was this common, or even likely?   Assuming he had not deserted and re-enlisted under a new identity, would there be a common service number?  Any advice would be welcome.

Just signed up to rootschat so was not able to join the conversation when it was live last year.  If you didn't get an answer at the time, the following is possibly what you want.
Pewfall Colliery
Accident 2 July 1906
Died 4 July 1906
living at 15 Station Road, Garswood.
I have copy of death certificate.

I'll see what other info I have that might be of interest to you.
