Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census - Hinton

Good evening , I am trying to trace one of my relatives from the forest of dean. His name is Charles Hinton born around 1835. His father was Thomas Hinton. Did you Thomas Hinton have a son that was named Charles. I know Charles father was a labrour and Charles was married in Coleford, however I have been unable to find any birth records or records from the 1841 cenus.

Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
Cheers

Sorry Manchster Rambler I just realized that your Thomas Hinton Lymm was for Lymm Cheshire.

I have already ruled out this Hinton Family as not being a connection.

Apologies.
Cheers

I would be very grateful for help in locating my HINTON family in Ly mm in 1841 or 1851.  All Hinton's there belong to my family, but the direct line is:

Thomas Hinton - b. Ly mm 1791
Miriam Hinton - b. ? c1793

Children:
William Hinton - b. Ly mm 1813 (Married before 1843, wife unknown, children born in Sale.)
John Hinton - b. Ly mm 1828
Samuel Hinton - b. Ly mm 1833

Plus various daughters who may have been married by this time.

Many thanks!

MR

Manchester Rambler,  I am wondering if you could assist me. I am also looking for a Hinton relative in the 1841 census. My relative is my fathers G.G. Grandfather Charles Hinton.

On the 1861 and 1871 census it states he was born in Dorsetshire and on one census states Lyme.    H was married in 1859 in West Dean Gloucestershire to Henrietta Roberts. On the marriage cert it states he was 24 which would but his dob at abt 1835. His father was Thomas Hinton (labourer).

He married in the baptist church, however I do not know if this was his religion of Henrietta's.

Just wondering if your relative Thomas Hinton had a son named Charles that you may have since found.

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Sally

Hi Dragon girl.

Thank you I really appreciate the help. I know for sure that he married Henrietta Roberts  on The 19th of April 1859 at the Baptist Chapel, Coleford, Glouscestershire, with his age recorded as 24 years.

I have found him on the 1861 Census living in West Dean  Glouscestershire, which is where my family is from. In 1861 he was living at Colaway and working as a miner according to the Census.

1871 census same as above living in West Dean

He died in Jan 1878. ( recorded on the Monmouth registry)
Buried Jan 1878 Coleford Cemetery

Both census show him as being born in Dorsetshire although one states Lime Dorsetshire, which I have assumed is incorrect spelling by the census collector, to be Lyme (Regis).

I have confirmed all his information from the point of his marriage onwards, I just don't know anything prior to that. It was only the marriage certificate that confirmed his fathers name as Thomas Hinton.  Witnesses on the certificate were  Anne  Morris and  something( forgot the name ) Roberts, the latter I assume a relative of Henrietta's

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated

I am hoping someone may be able to assist me. My relative Charles Hinton shows up on the 1861 census as born in Dorsetshire and 1871 census as born in Lyme Dorsetshire.

However , I have been unable to locate him on any earlier census or in locating his birth record.

I have his Marriage certificate that shows he was 24 years old when he married Henrietta Roberts  (22) at the Baptist Chapel Coleford, West Dean, Gloucestershire. His profession at the time was a Pitsinker and his fathers name is shown as Thomas Hinton (Labourer)

The marriage cert. shows him to be married in the Baptist Chapel Coleford. However I do not know if that is his religion as he is buried in unconsecrated ground in the cemetery in Coleford.

Any assistance anyone can give me would be very much appreciated, as I no-longer live in England and it will be a while before I can get home to conduct local research.

Thnak you in advance.

Carol,   Thank you for the information on the Baptist approach to Baptisms, I did not know this.  Your right it could also be because of Henrietta, so I will try and seek out some more information there.

I'm new to this site , so thank you for clarifying, i will be sure to post a request on the Dorset forum. Plus I need to spell check before posting! :D

Cheers
