Hi JM,

Just a quick one as I am about to head out.

Doris and Rupert were my grandparents so I should be able to solve some of these puzzles from memory.

I believe they were married in 1937 but I don't have any documentary evidence.  They certainly lived in Ashfield with children.

Doris didn't die in 1971.  It was more likely between 1975 and 1985.  She died in Sydney in hospital from a heart attack.  Have just been looking on Google Earth to see if I can find the hopital (as I can still picture it), but I can't.  Seem to remember that it was off Parramatta Rd somewhere.

Rupert died in Bathurst around 1990 (+/- 3yrs) from old age and bordom I'd say.  I think he died at home.

Until tonight......  8)

Two of their children died in Queensland.....

Margaret Mary KENNA died 25th Apr 1872
Ref = 1872/000659

Edward KENNA died 16th Apr 1888
Ref = 1888/002849

No marriage that I can see in Queensland for the parents though.

Dee,

Margaret wasn't on your original list (see post with listing of all 8 children on it).  Befuddled!

Libby, I hope you come back.

I've found that there are death notices for both William Joseph KENNA and Hannah KENNA on the Ryerson Index.
http://www.ryersonindex.org/

Just put Kenna in the search engine then scroll down the results.
If you think the information in these notices might help you, you can request a lookup of these notices by clicking on the link on the Request a Lookup page.

I've also found a marriage for Elsie May KENNA in 1939 in NSW, so you should be able to find that. However, I couldn't see a marriage for Gladys.

Dee,

When I was searching through census records last night on ancestry.com.au I found some additional Kenna's living with Elsie and her parents;

  Census 1943 (Michael & Lillian, 42 Bland Street, Ashfield)
  Census 1949 Katherine, Nancy and Ellen, Darley Street)

Am I going mad or could these be extra chilren that I have missed?

Dee,

I have managed to get some good stuff on Hannah and Joseph using both nsw.gov.au and ancestry.com.  Did you get the following children; Benjamin (B1875, Balmain); Ethel M (B1881 Balmain); Hannah (B1882 Balmain)?

I also found Joseph and Catherine busy having children around the same time, I had dismissed them as being the wrong parents until I found William (B1878, Balmain).  Their other children were born in Marouya, NSW.  I am guessing they are not related, would you agree?

PS Hope I am doing this reply thingie correctly, as you can see - forgot to go to bed!

Thanks Dee, hope you sleep well.  I had all sorts of wierd and wonderful dreams last night after six hours on the hunt.

JM, I am surprised to see this side of the family north of the Bridge, they have always been rather 'proud' of their common ancestry.  Ha, ha, ha.... how the eyes would roll!

You are amazing (Detective Dee)!.... But how do you find this stuff?  Seriously, is just a matter of using a few sources and then your powers of deduction?

I was 'lost' at Hannah Saunders.  Whilst I could see her on bdm.nsw.gov.au I couldn't verify that it was her.  I didn't want to do what I did before and go off on completely the wrong tangent.  How did you verify her?

Same for William Joseph.  I found the same one as you appear to have found but was again, not 110% sure it was a happy family reunion.

Go girl!

 ;D

PS Oh, hello JM.  Thanks for helping the newby with her new found addiction.

PPS And I thought I would have an early night tonight.....  ;)
