Lincolnshire / Re: George son of Dowager BRUMMITT
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 19:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi Alexander,
Thank you for all the information. I was over in Lincoln on Tuesday at the Family History Centre, but ran out of time, so will need to go again.

My great, great grand father David HERD married Caroline Brummitt. One of their two sons, Robert William HERD married my GGrandm Eliza Frood - of the FROOD/ FERODO BRAKE Company started by Eliza's brother Herbert. (He invented the brake lining)
It appears, from Census documents and family mutterrings that Robert William deserted Eliza, and their four children (one being my grandma Elsie) leaving them in the workhouse in Sculcoates, Hull.

After the birth of their youngest -Elsie- in 1898 their is no trace of him -  I have no death record, looked at emmigration and it was this enquiry that brought me ib to the Brummitt dynasty. If you have any ideas about lines of enquiry I would be obliged.
I have a blog which might inform:

http://froodfamily.blogspot.com/

Thanks again for the information.
Regards
Stuart

Hello,
In my research I have found a Dowager Brummitt who married 'Shipley' on 24th July 1741, unfortunately I cannot link this to my other Dowager Brummitt, brother of Bartholomew Brummitt (direct line) who were born in Lincoln in 1774 and 1776 respectively.
My Dowager and Bartholomew were the sons of Bartholomew Brummitt and Henrietta Grist, who married at St.Mary Magdalen, Lincoln in 1771. (they had a younger brother called George but the dates are wrong)

With Dowager being such an unusual name I thought I would respond. Hope that's OK?

My interest in the Brummitt's is that John Brummitt (Roper) was the father of my GGGFather's wife Caroline Brummitt, a David HERD.  I am travelling over to Lincoln on Mon/Tuesday (1-2 Aug) to do some work in the Library on Tuesday in the hope of evidencing some of my research.

Grace Brummitt was a certificated teacher in Lincoln before she married Thomas Pearson, a solictor and went to live in Kettering. Grace was the sister of my Great Grandfathers wife, Caroline Brummitt.
Did you say you have an image?

Hi - info from 1851 census - attached - living with his mother Ann, aged 72. Not sure if this brings us any closer to a link....except that Daniel is farming in Branston, which is where David Herd was from...

Hi,

I have David Herd, farming at Hanworth Fen, and in his employ were Daniel Surfleet (b 1816) and Charlotte Surfleet (b 1811), infor taken from 1841 census.  I think also that Daniel married a Caroline and they had two children Robert b 1846 and Mary b 1848. Daniel was farming 12 acres.

Hi diddymiller, your thoughts would be welcome.....today I discovered that a Daniel and Charlotte Surfleet were in the employment of David Hird, farmer, Lincoln,  the father of our missing ggrandfather. Is this too much of a coincidence? Any ideas about lines of enqqiiry to establish any connections?
