CaroleW, maddy52 and Kay99.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

From an earlier thread I found she was married to Edward Alcock at St Marie's RC Church in Sheffield in 1895. James Morris who married Maria Kelly was her brother and he became a Policeman. I know for definite that she went from the family home Broher County Sligo Ireland to Philadelphia and stayed with an aunt because I have two passenger sailing tickets one under the name of Eliza and the other under the name of Maria but not sure which is her. She then came to Sheffield and was here in 1895.

I had always known her to be Eliza Maria Morrisroe, her mother was Mary Ann Crofton. I have found recently that some records referred to her as Mary also. When they came to the UK they dropped the "roe" and were just known as Morris. No wonder I can't pin her down. Just need to find out where she was living in Sheffield prior to her marriage. Edward Alcock was living at 11 School Lane, Sheffield according to a previous posting.

As it in between Census dates perhaps it will remain a mystery???

Thanks.

Hello all

Please could anyone help me please?

I am trying to find a Maria Morris in the 1891 Census living somewhere in Sheffield. She was of Roman Catholic denomination and was born in Broher County Sligo Ireland in 1865.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you very much.

Hello MollyC

Thank you for the information on when Saint Marie's Church became a Cathedral. That is something I didn't know.

Hello rosie99

Thank you very much for the extra information. I wondered if it might be St Marie's but honestly thought it would be a RC Church nearer Pitsmoor. It's a shame the Banns haven't been fully transcribed. It is a coincidence that Edward's address was 11, School Lane, Park because some of  my English Ancestors lived in that area at Spice Shops on School Lane Park area. If Edward was at that address I wonder where Eliza Maria was? She sailed to Philadelphia in 1888 when she was 23 years old to stay with an aunt I think but when some of her brothers came to Sheffield she returned. They dropped the "roe" because they thought they would prosper better if they didn't  identify as Irish. Not sure who the witnesses were though.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hello all.

I am wondering if anyone can help me please?

I am looking for the marriage of Edward Alcock and Eliza Maria Morrisroe in Sheffield in 1895. I am trying to find out which Church they were married in. Their denomination was Roman Catholic.

They were both born in County Sligo Ireland, Edward in 1863 and Eliza Maria in 1865. They came over to Sheffield  and after their marriage they lived on Danville Street, Pitsmoor, West Brightside. They both died at 48, Catherine Road, Pitsmoor, West Brightside, Edward in 1926 and Eliza Mara in 1938 and they were both buried at City Road Cemetery Sheffield in Grave Number 4713.

I would be very grateful for any help to put the final piece in the puzzle!!!

With many thanks.

Cheshire / Looking for Church Street Hollingworth in 1891?
« on: Thursday 07 November 24 16:03 GMT (UK)  »

Please could anyone help with the above mystery?

My great grandfather William Howe was  born 1854 in Hollingworth Cheshire.

In 1881 he was living in Moorfield Terrace Hollingworth. In 1891 he was living in Church Street Hollingworth. In 1901 he was back living in Moorfield Terrace.

I have been on Google Street View but I cannot find a Church Street now.  I have found Church Road and am wondering if Church Street was demolished and changed to Church Road at some stage?

I would be very grateful if anyone could help.

Thank you very much.

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hollingworth New Connexion Chapel
« on: Monday 31 July 23 10:57 BST (UK)  »

Hello Chris Nilsen

I was interested in your message.  My answer to it is that after looking into where the burial records are kept for Hollingworth Graveyard, I'm afraid to say that I have still drawn a blank. My next  check was to see if I could contact the Vicar at Hollingworth Methodist Chapel on Water Lane, Hollingworth, but first I am going to contact heatherjulie by PM as she has posted after you.  Hopefully she may kindly do a "lookup" for us. If I get a positive answer from her I will post again on the main board.

Regards.
