Renke's daughter May married my great grandfather Jerry Lundon in Auckland in 1903. Jerry (John Raphael) Lundon was a prominent barrister and defended the Tuhoe profit Rua Kenana in what was then the longest high court trial during World War I. Shortly after the trial, Jerry Lundon was dis-barred and never worked again. May, who had been living in Victoria Road, Remuera with stables, suddendly found herself and the family living above a shop and taking in sewing to survive. Eventually, after a failed attempt at farming, the family settled at 46 Tainui Road, Devonport. The property was sold when the last of my great aunts died and is now an award winning homestay called The Towers/Devonport Villa Inn, named after the tower bedroom which my great aunt Betty occupied when I was a child.
