Dorset Lookup Requests / Re: JORDAN Family in Dorset
« on: Sunday 06 January 13 14:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, my father was the illegitimate son of Anthony Jordan. However, because it was the result of an affair, my father was registered on the birth certificate as being the son of his mother's husband. Shortly before Anthony Jordan died, he reconnected with my father (who also passed away in 2007). My father never asked about the Jordan family history, so other than a couple of photographs I know nothing about my grandfather and his family or his other children. The information that I have seen posted on the website has been really helpful, but I was wondering if Amanda might be interested in getting in contact. Sorry to do this on such a public forum, but I am not sure how else to get in contact. Many thanks
Hi there - tried sending you a PM to give Amanda's email address (as advised by moderator) but the message was not sent as your 'inbox full'. Therefore, no idea how to put you two in touch - any ideas?
Cheers Bill

Thanks for the information Roy G and I will certainly check out the website. I have written a short article on this subject - about 800 words - mainly based on the only 1921 reference I have found. I will try to attach to this post but if unsuccessful I can send it to you and Andy for your comments.

Sussex / Sir John de Radynden 1247-1350

I am researching Sir John de Radynden who was born in Radynden Manor (Brighton) in 1247. I have only been able to find one reference work "The Manor of Radynden" by Charles Thomas-Stanford in 1921 but can find out little about this important Sussex figure of the 13th century. Any help about Sir John or possible other references would be appreciated.

Have since found that George Richardson was charged with 'inciting to riot' and the evidence was that he was carrying a copy of Punch - a Communist Party broadsheet - and shouting 'Up the Russians'. He was found guilty and sentenced to 1 month hard labour or fine of £5, which he paid.
William Batchelor was probably William Henry Batchelor born Dec 1899. Accused of shouting 'They would be no bloody good without their houses (horses?). What a brave lot of b******s, go for them, they won't hurt you'. Found guilty and sentenced to 1 month hard labour.
Albert Lawrence was born around 1878 but I can find no birth record. He was charged with assulting Police Sgt Wells and P.C Minton and sentenced to 6 month hard labour.
Still searching and any help appreciated!!!

Thanks Roy for the work you have done and the suggestions. I will get onto their birth records but it is a lot more difficult to find details of their life after being given 'hard labour' in 1926 and how this affected their families.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with this search on the JORDAN family. I showed the results to my friend who was really, really happy.
Finally found her Irish roots which were 2 generations earlier than family whispers had suggested. Concluded at Thomas JORDAN who married Mary CARRAHER on 29 Dec 1852 in Rooskey IRE. This seems to be the best family match since there eldest son Anthony was born in Bury in 1856 so they must have 'come over' between 1852 and 1856.
Thanks again to all and any other little titbits would be appreciated.

Ireland / Thomas Jordan born c1831 Ireland
« on: Thursday 07 July 11 22:48 BST (UK)  »
Am working on the Jordan family history for a good friend's 60th birthday.
Had one false start where she thought her family had Irish connections but she was 2 generations out.
Now have Thomas JORDAN born about 1831 in Ireland. He married Mary ?? who was born about 1834 in Ireland. By 1861 they were living in Bolton, England. So any information about births of Thomas and Mary in Ireland and their marriage would be great.
Also, is there any way to find when they moved to England.
Thanks Bill
