Roscommon / Re: Kelleys of Roscommon
« on: Thursday 14 March 13 00:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm looking for a James Kelly who was supposedly born in Kilgefin parish in Roscommon around 1834 to a Patrick Kelly and unknown mother (possible surname Moore). Has anyone come across these individuals in your research? Thanks.

Norfolk / Re: Katherine Doyle born Briston in 1/8/1872

Hi Linda,

Yes, it was in American format. I should have thought about that. She was supposedly born January 8, 1872. She shows up in New York in the 1900 census, married to John McDonald. According to that census, they had been married for 10 years and she arrived in 1888, although in 1910 she is listed as arriving in 1886. John arrived in 1882 from Scotland according to his naturalization index card.

Both of their parents were apparently born in Ireland. She died on 9 Dec 1966 in New Jersey. I have not yet ordered a copy of her death certificate to see if it provides any additional information.

I have found a marriage record for a Patrick Doyle and Mary Snee in the GRO index in Mar 1866 in Dewsbury. However, what confuses me is that there is also a listing in the index for a marriage between those same names in Dewsbury in June 1896. I thought perhaps this could be a renewal of vows, but I am not sure how common that was in the 19th century. Plus, Dewsbury does not appear to be near Briston, so I have been hesitant to order a copy of this record. Particularly because I have no additional information to cross reference it against.

Wicklow / Re: Mellon/Beatty families of Wicklow

Any idea what part of county Wicklow your Mellon/Beatty lived (i.e. parish or townland), and what denomination they were ?

Shane

Hi Shane,

Unfortunately, I do not. On their gravestone it says only county Wicklow and I have not seen a parish or townland anywhere else. So far, I have not been able to track down immigration or naturalization records in the US. I know that they were in the US by at least as early as 1854, since that is when their first son I am aware of (Peter) was born.

One of their sons was Catholic, and I imagine that they were Catholic as well, since they are all buried in a predominantly Catholic cemetery in NY (Calvary). None of those Griffith's Valuation names help me yet, since I do not know Joseph Mellon's father's name and none of the Beattys are the name I have for Elizabeth's father.

How would I go about searching parish records if I did have the information as to what parish they were from? Thanks.

Norfolk / Katherine Doyle born Briston in 1/8/1872

I am looking for information on a Katherine Doyle who was apparently born on 1/8/1872 in Briston to Patrick Doyle and Mary Snee, both from Ireland. This information is from Katherine's social security file in the US. I have been unable to find any information on any of these names from the area, nor can I find Katherine's birth in the GRO index.

Wicklow / Mellon/Beatty families of Wicklow
« on: Monday 04 July 11 13:16 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the Mellon and Beatty families of Wicklow.

Joseph Mellon (b. ~1822) married Elizabeth Beatty (b. ~1839) in New York, although both of them were born in County Wicklow. According to Joseph's death certificate, his mother was Eliza (no maiden name). Elizabeth's parents were James Beatty and Hannah.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Midlothian / McDonalds/Cooneys in Midlothian
« on: Monday 04 July 11 13:07 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find more information on the McDonald and Cooney families that passed through Midlothian via Ireland around the 1850-1880s.

Patrick McDonald married Rose/Roseann/Rosina Cooney (both born in Ireland) in Edinburgh in 1852. They had at least 8 children all born around Midlothian or Peebleshire, as follows:
Michael (b 1852)
James (1854)
Mary Ann (1856-1948) m. John Crorkin
Helen (18569)
Marjory (1859) - possibly same person as Helen
John P (1863-1941) m. Katherine Doyle in the US
Catherine (1864)
Bridget (1868)

Patrick died in Roslin on 3/24/1880 and Rose died in Lochgelly on 11/8/1912. Rose's death was reported by her grandson, Patrick McQue.

Patrick's parents were Walter McDonald and Mary Stanton according to his death record. Rose's father was Francis Cooney according to her death record.

I have found records of a Francis Cooney and wife Ann living in Lasswade in 1851 and 1871 who are the right age to be Rose's parents, but I have been unable to confirm this. This Francis died in Roslin on 2/6/1872 and wife Ann died on 3/21/1875. No parents listed for Francis, but Ann's parents listed as Patrick Cooney and Ann Bradey.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Fife / Re: McQUE & TIGHE families

Thanks for that information, Norrie. I am actually looking for a couple of generations removed. My line is through Patrick McQue's grandparents Rose Cooney and Patrick McDonald, so my primary interest is at that level and back.

Wildgoose - Rootschat is not allowing me to respond to your message. The McQue that I am searching for lived in Lochgelly, which is also where his grandmother Rose (Roseann) McDonald (nee Cooney) is buried. She died in 1912 and the informant was Patrick McQue. My hope is that I can find a living descendant who might have an old photograph of Rose or other info.

I am searching for this same family. Patrick McQue, who I believe married a Tighe, was the great-grandson of my ggg-grandparents (Patrick McDonald & Rose Cooney). I have been trying to track down living descendants of theirs. Please contact me directly on email at (*). I would like to chat with you further. Thanks.
