Thanks Jacques! I've managed to get info on the Edwards family following on from this Thomas, ie his descendants, all the way down to my parents, on the Edwards side. I'm stuck with pinning down firm details of this Thomas (and Elizabeth) who is currently the top of my family tree and to see if I can get back further - it simply may not be possible but it's a challenge! Visiting Shropshire and Worcestershire archives prob not practical. I'm in touch with the Cliff tree but will double check the Foxall tree, am aware of the family link. Another website suggests he may be born Bromsgrove. The on-line church/chapel records for Clee Hill 1796-1829 were very useful, and picked up Thomas/ Elizabeth's children's births/baptisms but not details for Thomas/Elizabeth. Don't know if we'll get any further but thanks anyhow for your interest.

Worcestershire / Thomas Edwards c1782 Mamble
« on: Wednesday 28 September 11 13:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I've got back to a Thomas Edwards born c1782 in Mamble area who married an Elizabeth (?) and moved across the border to Shropshire (Clee Hill area) and am now drawing a blank. Would be really pleased if anyone has information on Thomas Edwards, his birth, parents would be wonderful, and who Elizabeth is. Many thanks.

I took the gamble and downloaded his record - I am pretty certain it is the chap I've been looking for - just need to tie up the couple of differences in dates, but it may mean I'm on the right track.

Constantly amazed at how efficient this system is! Many thanks. It has confirmed birth dates for James and 2 of his siblings I had a possibles, plus another child I haven't picked up as yet - although I knew there are a couple of children living but not identified - so the search has moved forward.

Having got replies re the Irish birth connection, it looks like it could be him - the birth records (Ireland) are 30th April 1874 - the 30th April tallies with your research, only the year is a year different - would that be possible?

Don't know! I believe the family were in Chirk before James was born, but had thought he was born in Ireland. Am getting what I think is his marriage certificate which might help too. Will hang onto this info and see what transpires as the search progresses. Many thanks.

Armed Forces / James Redfern bc1875 - ? naval connection

Hi! I'm trying to find my elusive great grandfather's history. James Redfern bc1875, married Kate Cox on Portsea Island in 1898. I can find her living with family on various census data. I understand from current family he was in the Navy. The family all seem to have moved to Shropshire in @ the early 1920's and I think he died in the 1930's. Does anyone know how to trace his possible career in the Navy? many thanks.

I'm trying to confirm my Great Grandfather James Redfern's history. I believe he may have been born C1875 in Rush, Ireland - if I've got his correct family his father was a gamekeeper, James, his mother Elizabeth. He may have siblings Joseph and Elizabeth also born in Rush. Any way of finding out any more? Many thanks.
