Thanks Osprey,
I now have these certificates, and they were indeed my 3x Gt Grandparents.

Thanks so much for your help!

Osprey,

Thanks so much for taking the time to look for me.

There are several Elizabeth Parson deaths registered in Bedminster so I've been reluctant to order certificates, but will give this one a try.

Greatly appreciated!

Osprey -

Thank you so much!  That looks very promising.  I'll order the certificate and hopefully that will fill in one more piece in my puzzle.

Can I be greedy and ask if you happen to see a similar burial for Elizabeth Parsons (his wife) who I also last see in 1861 census on East Street, aged 66?

Really appreciate you're taking the time to help me.  Thank you!

Louise

The one which mentions East St. says St John the Baptist, and gives this archive reference P/St.JBed/R/4/f  It mentions Page 80, and 'Somerset Burials' as the Record Set. It says the Archive is Somerset Archives, Page 80

The one with the exact date is also St John the Baptist and gives the same archive reference, and mentions 'Somerset Burials' as the Record Set, but says Bristol Archives.

FindmyPast has a transcribed burial record with an unclear date for a John Parsons of East St. (it says 14 Apr ? 1859-1869) alongside transcribed burial for a John Parsons with a specific burial date but no mention of his being of East St. (14 Apr 1861).

I have a John Parsons in my tree, who was living in East Street, age 71, for the 1861 census which was on April 7th 1861, but can't find any trace of him after.

Does anyone have access to this record who may be able to clarify what it actually says?

Thank you so much in advance,
Louise

Well that will show me not to get ahead of myself!!

Yes mckha489 - I have a few marriage certificates like that.

I've never been able to find any trace of the father (Richard Keiley, carpenter) in England, although I've never looked at Bristol previously. I do see there's a Richard Kelley death in 1855 in Bristol - so maybe?!
Will be interesting to see what the orphan archives can tell me.

Thanks for your insight!

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: 1921 Census - missing Gt Gt Grandmother

KGarrad

I've always had the opinion that they were married by license because of his being in the Marines and possibly not having much certainty about where he would be.  It is interesting that they say she has no parents on the license but I thought that was likely easier than dealing with her parents perhaps being alive still in Ireland. In the marriage register they name her father (Richard) and it doesn't say 'deceased'. As you say, why not just claim to be 21, but we'll never know the answer to that one!!

I would never have thought she'd be in Bristol as an orphan in 1861, but it's definitely an interesting possibility isn't it - particularly since its says she's born London.  I had always worked on the theory that they met in London with her being recently arrived from Ireland, then after a time in Plymouth ended up in Bristol because he's from nearby Box/Bath.

I have given Martha so much of my time and would love to know more about her! Maybe this is the link?  Mullers' Orphanage is just a mile from Lower Ashley Rd.  I've made a request to see whether they may have any helpful information in their archive.

Thank you!

Thanks KGarrad - looks likely that she was institutionalized - I'll do a little more digging around those two possibilities in that area.

Appreciate everyone's help!
