Lancashire / Re: Parish Records - Maria Ellison - 1929
« on: Tuesday 18 March 14 16:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Jan,

Just found this on Ancestry, Lawrence Ellison Porter married on the 14th May 1820 to Judith Clayton. At St John, Manchester, Lancs. FHL File No 1545637. Both of this parish. Married by banns. Witness looks like William Seetdon he signed with an X. Hard to read his handwriting.

Also found Maria Ellison bap 12 Aug 1836 to Lawrence Ellison and Judith. Portsmouth
Harriet Ellison bap 7th Feb 1830 Manchester. St Marys, St Denys and St George to Lawrence Ellison and Judith. He was a Private - Soldier
In 1911 Harriet was living in Manchester 81 yrs old Single born Manchester.

Found other children born to Lawrence and Judith but unfortunately no date of birth.
Elizabeth, Sarah, James and I think a Lawrence.
When I get time I will look some more for you.
Hope any of this helps.
Did you send for Lawrence death certificate because there is another Lawrence living in Portsea, I wondered about Judith living in a workhouse in 1841, without Lawrence. Maybe there is another death for Lawrence.

Cheers.

Hi Paddy,
Will contact you when I know how to send a personal message. Do you have his full date of death, the certificate should tell you where he died and who was the informant. You mentioned Nunhead in one message, this use to be part of Surrey. I have ancesters on my Father's side buried there.

Hi Paddy,

What details do you have on your uncle, name, date of birth, date of death, etc., any middle names. Not sure what papers were out then, let me know and will see if I can find anything out.

Hi Paddy,
I know what you mean, I live in Lancashire, but I did have lots of relatives in London cause my Dad was born there, so I know some of his family are buried at Abney Park Cemetery in Hackney, Stoke Newington. Try looking on line for what newspapers were around that time. Wonder if there were any police reports on the incident. A lot of libraries have info on the newspapers, but I don't know what is online. Hope you find what you are looking for.  :)

Hi Paddy,
Just read your message, just wondered if there :) could be an article in the paper about his disappearance and his death, maybe it's worth looking into, there might be some info there.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks for that info. Maybe I will never find out if they were married or not. Looks like I have come to an end with Ellen family for the moment.
Thanks anyway.

I found her maiden name on her children baptism and I have 2 birth certificates for her 2 of her children, it shows Ellen Ince formerly Watson. What also puzzled our family was that we have found only the last four children baptized at St Philip Bethnal Green and Bethnal Green Holy Trinity on the same day ( I presume these church have merged together) they were a lot older, two of the baptism say Ellen Watson and two say Eleanor Watson, same address for them all.

Hi everyone
Thanks for looking for me, I did find that William Doouss, then tried Ellen/Eleanor with that last name, but still no marriage, couldn't find a death for a William Doouss, or in the census. Ellen is definatly with John on the 1861 census etc., on one of the census they are down as Mee instead of Ince, I have looked at every combination I could think of. I am wondering if Ellen parents died when she was young and maybe she could have been adopted and Watson was her new family name. Pulling my hair out. :(
