Hi Sandra,
Computer still having gliches - being thrown through a window is a distinct possibility! I've really no idea what happened with Thomas and Elizabeth. All I've gleaned from other relatives is that he did emigrate sometime in the early part of the 20th century and that Lily was the only surviving child at the time of his emigration. After that there was a large gap until an Aunt received a funeral card which gave the date of his birth and death at the home of his daughter "Mrs Elmer Beard" in Laconia. I don't know which aunt received the card, but someone must have been in contact with Thomas' family because otherwise they would have no address to send the card to. My cousin has the card now, but she has no recollection of how she came to have it - presumably it was in her late mother's possessions, but quite how she came by it we've no idea. By 1958 the family had moved many times since the 1920s and Thomas' brothers and sisters were nearly all dead!
I think your guess that he left after the death of Elizabeth is probably near the mark - I'll try working along those lines and see what I can unearth.
Many thanks for your help.
