Thank you very much Pb3

It has filled in missing details.

It also as killed a family story about Ellen McGeoghan.  I was told she went to america as a governess to the German ambassidor and was not heard of again after the start of WW1.  This record shows she died in 1898.  The 1891 census shows her as a pupil teacher. She was born in 1881.

What age was Owen in 1870? WHat were his parents names?. There is an Owen Shovelin born 16th August 1865, Carrickmacross Co Monaghan. Parents Thomas Shovelin and Mary Kellly. Could County Main be County Mon?

Yes I suppose Mon could have beed transcribed by the priest as Main.  I have not seen the original records.

I calculate that if he is that Owen it would mean he was confirmed at 18.  It is possible but I consider it would normally be confirmation by 11.

Thanks Adam.

The Hannah in my family was born 20 years earlier than the last Hannah shown.

The Allison family link is also earlier.

Shane

Thanks Shane

I do not have copies if the information at present they are with my nephew.  The person was Owen or Eugene Shevelan (or variants)

I believe it was either the 1871 Census for Blackhill near Consett or a transcript of the church records at Blackhill St Mary's made by the PP, from the original records which I was not allowed to see.

My Notes:
This gentleman may have/seems to have changed his first name to Owen from Eugene or it could have been an error in the church records
He was confirmed at St Mary's Blackhill Consett on 18th Feb 1883 as Eugene and
took Patrick as his confirmation name.
His daughter Clara's record also shows the name Eugene and the Mothers as Anna
(Nee MacDonald)
Surname variation Shevlan on Marriage record at St Mary's Blackhill but Shevelin on Confirmation record.
Shown as Owen Shovlin in 1871 Census.

Thank you for the info.

My Thompson Family can be traced back to 1796 with a marriage in Tanfield to an Ann Dyson.

I do have Irish connections  however through my Grandmother Margaret Nelson.  Her Father (John) and Mother were born in Ireland but that is all I know.  She had an brother with the surname of Hammell. She is shown as being born in Ireland on one census yet on another as born at Kyo, County Durham.

Thanks for the info

Louth / Re: McGurk or McKeogh
« on: Sunday 19 June 11 11:05 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information on a Catherine McGurk or McKeogh of Louth
1871 Census of Consett, Co. Durham, England, shows her age 50 (Born circa 1821)
Place of birth is shown as Ireland Louth

She married Owen Shevelan about 1841-3 ish  They lived for a while and had family in Monaghan before leaving for Consett between 1846 and 1850.

From information in other posts it would seem that she could be from Killanny or an adjacent parish.  In the Census for Consett she is listed as being born in Louth.

I have found an entry in a record for a place of Birth listed as County Main, Ireland.

Can anyone help identify where this relates to today?
