Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Is it me? Genes Reunited new tree design
« on: Wednesday 15 August 12 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I too am cheesed off with Genes Reunited and their new tree design.  Why didn't they leave the thing alone as it wasn't broke, so why did they fix it?  You write to them using the feedback button on your tree and nothing happens, the message doesn't get sent and you've lost it (I know I should have copied it!!)  When you do successfully send a message to their supposed "help" desk, their reply bears no resemblance to the questions you've asked.  I would be very grateful if somebody could tell me how I copy my tree to file as I too am cancelling my membership of GR, and try as I may I can't fathom out how to use Gedcom!!!  Any help would be very gratefully received.

Thanks for listening to my moans.

Hi Chooch

I found an Ann Camp born 1810 (Christened 3/5/1810) in St Pauls Walden, Hertford (Dad William Camp and mother Mary) who married a William Tillcock on the 18th October 1829 in St Mary's, Ware.  Making her c19 when she married.

the only reference I found to an Ann Camp, was in the 1881 Census aged 71 living with sister Mary Ginger 81 both born in St Pauls Walden, hertford with a servant called Harriet Day 24.  They lived in Whitwell Grocer's shop, St Paul's Walden.

Hi Chooch

The records I have for William Tillcock born in Ware, Herts in 1807-1872 are that he married Sarah Hart c1808-1850 in St John the Baptist Church, Croydon, Surrey UK on the 22nd December 1839.  He later married an "Emily" (c1813-1893) but cannot find any records of her BD or M!

William was the son of John Tillcock c1780-1825 and Mildred Chapman c1781-1868.

The 1851 Census shows that William was living with second wife Emily and daughter Jane 9 in East Wymer, Norfolk.  His first wife Sarah died in 1850.
The 1841 Census showed William living with Sarah in Crib Street, Ware with son William 3 and daughter Jane 1 month.    William died in Norfolk in May 1872.

Hope this is useful.

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Death of Joseph Tillcock - 186?

 :-\Hi Matildakin

This probably wont be much help, but I have Joseph Tillcock's death on my family tree as 5/5/1870 at Amwell End, Ware (occupation groom) born 1817 Ware.  He married Hannah Phillips on the 4/2/1838 in Standon, Herts.  Hannah was born in Thundridge, Herts in 1817 and died in Hoddesdon Hertfordshire in 1887.

I have a lot of details about their children, which I will pass on if required.

Hope this is at least a tiny bit useful!!

Hertfordshire / Re: THORBY/THARBY in Herts?

Hello,
I am researching a William Thorby, 1772-1850, and am a bit stuck. I can not find his birth, marriage, or the birth of his daughter Hannah.

I have him as a gamekeeper at Bramfield Bury in Hertfordshire in 1839, 1841, and 1847. He died in 1850 in Stapleford. According to the 1841 (Bramfield) census he was born about 1779 and not in Hertfordshire (His burial record places his birth at about 1772). His wife Elizabeth was born about 1768-1779 and the 1841 census records her birthplace as either Ireland or Foreign (though I think it's an I for Ireland). His daughter Hannah was born about 1814 - the 1841 census has her birthplace as not in Hertfordshire, and the 1851 census lists it as what looks like Malta. I'm not sure if Elizabeth was Hannah's mother since one of her conflicting birth dates makes her a bit old, but the other is reasonable.

The family lived in Bramfield from at least 1839 (when Hannah married a James Pratt) until their deaths (1842 Elizabeth, 1850 William, 1851 Hannah Thorby Pratt Tillcock). I haven't found any other Thorbys living in Bramfield, I don't know where mine came from, and I don't know for sure that it wasn't spelled THARBY as I find both spellings.

Does anyone recognize a connection to this family or have any advice on how to find more about them? I wish William and Elizabeth had made it to the 1851 census so I'd at least have one more year's worth of info about them!

Thank you,
Sarah

Hi

I read your message about Hannah Thorby 1814-1851 born in Malta posted a year ago.  The only details I have on Hannah are as follows:  As you said she first married James Pratt b.1811-1845 and between 1840 and 1845 they had 3 children.  All 3 children died along with their father.  Hannah then married Thomas Tillcock b)1816 on the 11th May 1847 in Bramford, Hertford, they had 2 children Eliza and Louise.

Hannah died in 1851 in Bramfield, Hertford and as daughter Eliza was born in that year, it is assumed that Hannah died either giving birth or shortly after.  Eliza was born 2 years before Eliza.

Unfortunately that's all I know about Hannah.
