Thanks Amber,
It does not appear that they had any direct descendants then, so maybe the information i have is of less value generally.

Thanks Pat. I'll try that. There are only a few odds and ends but it would be nice for them to find a home

Hi
Is anyone out there related to Arthur Harry LAYER who lived in Ipswich, Suffolk born about 1895 and married to Doris FOAKES of Sudbury? I have some old photos and correspondence that could be of interest.

Suffolk / Emily WOODARD - Ipswich - antiques shop
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 00:37 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find some information about Emily WOODARD and her antique shop in Ipswich which I am told she ran in the 1920s or possibly earlier.
She married George Woodard in 1914 and was a widow, previously married to Samuel Mayhew . She was born Emily Suckling in 1855 in Stowmarket. In 1911 she was living in Dover. She died in Hemingstone in 1931.
Any information about its whereabouts  gratefully received.
Thanks, Jen

Ann, sorry to be so late in replying - have been off the radar for a while. It looks as though you have some good answers anyway. I can find  nothing for my CRISP family before Elizabeth Crisp born Norwich 1838 so would have been no help with John and Tabitha. Elizabeth went on to have three children with John White from Gressenhall and later married Abraham Frakes but I don't know who her parents were for sure although I think they were William and Elizabeth. There are no Crisps in my tree from Bracon Ash, Hethel or Wicklewood so I don't think we are connected.

Yes there is a William Stammers, a corn merchant, aged 72, living in Bear Street, Nayland in the 1851 census. He has a servant so clearly doing well! I can't see him in the 1841 census but he is still there in 1861 aged 84. He was born in Melton, Suffolk.
I can't see Jeremiah in Nayland though.
Thanks again

Hello Windy

Thanks for this information - its  very interesting. My 4 X great grandmother Rachael Beardwell was born in Stratford St Mary and the family lived there for several generations after her so there were clearly connections with Stratford. Maybe my direct family were millers and not just the cousin John Beardwell born around 1804 whom I first mentioned.

My 5 X great grandfather was John Beardwell born 1731 in Holton St Mary so it seems possible. There were several John Beardwells around at this time however, not counting the many other ways the name was spelt- Bardwell, Birdwell, Berdwill, Bradwell etc etc

I have looked again at the 1841 census and there are other millers living in Bear Street, Nayland.  In fact three others -  John Smith, William Mussell and Edward Jarvis. They all appear to have been born in Suffolk.

If I unearth any others I'll let you know.

I have a John BEARDWELL born in 1804 in Stoke, Suffolk. In 1841 he was a journeyman miller living in Bear Street Nayland, Suffolk. However  I don't have any more details of him or any other family members who were millers.

Hello Yorkslass. Thanks for the info about the Essex Record Office site. I will certainly investigate.

Bill, I have no 'Wrights' in my tree from Needham. The names I have are Mayhews, Sucklings and Mounts amongst others. I have now traced the Sucklings to Chelmsford and back to Finchingfield.

My Norfolk research is mainly for my in-laws, the Riches family, the Crisps, Simmonds and White family around Ditchingham, Hedenham and the Diss area, but none on the coast. They too have been in Norfolk for centuries.
