hi
My father served with the 8th Battalion 6th Airborne Div, 14436779 D.E.W Harris he landed in Normandy at Troarn, to blow the bridges over the Dives river, he was later sent to re enforce the 9th Battalion as they had took a battering at Merville, so your man may have served with this Battalion ? and I have not heard of a S company, unless it stands for support

I have found John Harris b 30/July/1770, son of William and Alice Harris, St Andrew Parish Registers
and just to complicate things there is another John Harris b 4/April/1763 son of James and Elizabeth Harris.

I also came across an entry in Jacksons Oxford Journal 12/12/1801 of a William Harris of St Peter in the East dying of excess drink,
considering that two of Johns sons, Richard and Edward were both living there in the 1841 census there may be a connection.

Sorry Nigel
He was born in Oxford, St Peter in the East, I have looked for his service record but cannot find it, I think it was distroyed during WW2, I was told he was wounded in the arm, and was given the SWB but I dont know when or where, I will check on the SOFO site later
many thanks

Sorry forgot to mention the year 1900s or about 1910, as great uncle mentioned his brother as next of kin and I don't know which brother it was.
