Hello Weegrm & Pheebz.

I have been off family tree stuff for a while, but am keen to get back in on things.

I am also living near Inverness and might be able to do a little more digging on things.

Hope to hear from you

T.  I'm not aware of any middle name, or any distant William Loney.

I have also found a blog on ancestry at the following link (http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=8&p=surnames.monteath), which states Lillias's parents were William Muil & Janet Anderson - However, on IGI is lists the parents of Lillias Maul as John Maul and Katharine Morrice.

So - really confused now  :-\

As for Robert Wright, I did have a possible Link to parents as David Wright and Jean Donaldson, but I've lost where I obtained that link from - so it's very uncertain!!

Dazey - that's great.  Definately the link I was looking for.  I have some details of JG Loew and his line back to France early 1800s.  Don't know when he came to the UK though, other than he is listed as being here in 1891 aged 16.  I presume he came to the UK with his mother (Caroline (sarah) Morley), as she was originally born in Brighton - and I found details today on IGI of her parents' marriage on 21/7/1839.

John Morley & Caroline Fairhall.  Fairhall seems to be an uncommon name, so I thought I might be lucky in tracing either the Fairhall or Morley lines back further.

You mentioned William and John - where was that info from?

Hello all,
Caroline Morley b2/2/1848 in Brighton (married to Emile Loew in Paris in 1873).

After the marriage in Paris, her Son (Jean/John George Loew) moved to Brighton (possibly with her!?)

Caroline's parents are listed as Caroline (ms: Fairhall) and John Morley.

I am after any help/direction in establishing any further Tree details on the Morley/Fairhall line. :)

Thanks in advance,

Devon / Re: John Leake / Lake (Plymouth)

Thanks for that - yes I agree that it is definately possible that John Leake/Lake & Mary Ann (Moffat) moved away from Plymouth soon after John Leake jnr was born.  When I get some more credits, I will have a look at John Leake's death certificate and see if that has any more info.

On the website 'Findmypast' which lists basic census info - I found the following in the English 1841 Census:

Household - LEAKE, John 1811 (age) 30  M  Plymouth Devonshire.

The age would certainly tie in for my Gx3 Grandfather being born ~1834 as John Leake(Lake?) Snr would have been ~23 years old.  Nothing for John jnr though?!

Unfortunately while I believe John was born in Plymouth and his father was an Inspector of Police, I don't know for sure if it was in the Devon area.  I will though try the Police info you gave me.

Devon / John LEAKE / LAKE (Plymouth)

Hi all,
I've been searching my tree for a while and it's all been Scotland/Ireland until now.

My greatx3 grandfather was John Henry Leake, a fish hook maker living in Glasgow in the 1870s>; he was apparantley born in Plymouth ~1834.  From his marriage certificate in Scotland, it lists his parents as:

John Lake (Inspector of Police) & Mary Ann (Moffatt).

Any help/direction on this line is much appreciated.

Monica - thanks for the sanity check.

You were right that Isaac's death was probably reported by a family member (son Alfred).  And I suppose it is very plausible that he didn't know the names of his grandparents.

And you are also right that it is frustrating that when information is being sought it often comes with large gaps of waiting in between.

I was hopeful that with an unusual name as Isaac I could have got a bit further back - but that's not going to happen (yet).

Still, I have found out some good information and also traced Isabella Beaton's line back to her grandparents ~1770/80s.  Jacobite Rebellion - her i come...
