I well remember the 'Big Tree' on the green in St Marys Park Hubbyham, only too well, I spent many happy childhood hours playing there & jumping off the small tree beside it! I'll try the local paper, the Liffey Champion, & see if they can bring a photo to light of Sílleachán House - someone somewhere must have one. I did contact John Colgan, a local historian, but even he had no luck. Never give up though - one will appear at some stage.

No joy there unfortunately Rathmore. By hook or by crook I'll get a picture of that house someplace!

Hubbyham - I'm overjoyed to hear that someone else remembers the Silleachan House ( I don't know how to do fadas on a computer!) I was beginning to think it was a figment of my imagination. I'm delighted too that you could confirm that there was a small bridge over the stream. I live in hope of a photo. Someone has to have one someplace.

Sorry everyone and thanks for replying to my post. I was off line for a while - big computer glitch which was driving me over edge so I wouldn't use that computer, thankfully I now have a new computer and so I'm back online. I'm not on facebook myself so I'm wondering if it's still possible for me to post on the Ellon facebook? Sorry I'm just not terribly good on computers. My Great Uncle William Lyall Birnie lived at Beechlea on Commercial Road long and many years ago, I just wanted to have a look at it. I'll have a look at the nursing home on google maps. Thank you all very very much for replying & I apologise for my delay in answering.

Would aanyone have any idea where a house called BEECHLEA was on Commercial Road in Ellon? I'm not sure if it's gone or had a name change. My G. Uncle lived there in the 1940's.

Hi Aghadowey, No nothing there, I've actually been in contact with John Colgan about this house. I was beginning to think I was dreaming the whole thing and then I mentioned it to my brothers and they all remembered it. At the time I had a photo of the painting I saw in Carlow and my brother Martin agreed it was very similar to Sílleachán house, unfortunately I deleted this photo off my phone in error, but hopefully I'll be able yo get another photo.

Hello,
So I popped along to Ardreigh (Ardree) Cemetery today, I couldn't find any headstones for Gleeson but most headstones are so old it is impossible to read them. It's a very small and very pretty Cemetery, unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me today, next weekend when I'm out walking I'll take a photo of it for you. Also I think I may have seen a post from you in relation to Mount Offaly? If so then I'll take a photo of Mount Offaly house for you too.
Best Regards
Sams mam.
