My maternal g grandfather, Henry John Burton was born in Belper in Leicestershire about 1854 , he married Hannah Elizabeth Croysdill, also of Belper and the marriage was in Belper in 1884.   He had one brother, Joseph and at least four sisters, viz Sarah Anne, Mary Jane, Agnes  and Emma.
The Henry and his wife moved to Sutton on Sea in Lincolnshire (called Sutton in the Marsh then) employed by the Railway - he was a platelayer and his wife minded the crossing.   They had four sons, William, George, Thomas (my grandfather)  and Wilfred.
Remnants of the original family in Belper, included, Joseph who was a master baker.   I am the only person still alive from Thomas, yet, Wilfred has numeropus descendants around Doncaster.

How do I search for just the name Wicks ?   When I put Wicks down I get all answers including Warwickshire - by far the majority and similarly the name Burton with all the Burton on Trent's turning up ?

For Rebecca, reply No. 36
My name is Tony Drew and my wife was a "Knee" before our marriage.   She is a direct descendant of Daniel Knee of Stroud, a widower who married Elizabeth Wicks on 2.2.1805 - he was believed to be in his fifties then because burial records show a Daniel aged 69 interred on 2.11.1819.
There were 4 children of the marriage, Mary (1805), Martha (1807), Daniel (1810) and George (1812).   Martha and George are believed to have died early  - Martha (1809) and George (1813).
Daniel was convicted at Gloucester Assizes in 1826 and transported to Australia for life, where he raised a family with Mary Ann Mantle (nee Hulks) a widow - and theire are numerous Knees now around the Newcastle, Maitland area of NSW.
If this is of interest let me know.

A much later occurrence was Charles Henry Sizer of South Somercotes marrying Florence Hewson - I guess around the late 1900s (the first child was born in 1911)

This is not truly Horncastle, but John William Sizer born about 1865 at Addlethorpe married a Naomi Vessey, she died about 1941 in Kirton End, Nr. Boston.   Vessey was not a name associated with Kirton - I know I was born there in 1935, so I guess they came from elsewhere.

Lincolnshire / Sizer family in Lincolnshire
« on: Wednesday 07 September 05 05:02 BST (UK)  »
My maternal grandmother was a Sizer from a rather prolific Sizer background, mainly from the Hogsthorpe/Alford area, but stretching from North Somercotes in the North as far as Peterborough/Boston in the South, and Louth, etc in the West, i.e. whatever you like to call it, the Marsh or the Fens, etc..   I would appreciate anyone with any connections getting in touch, thank you.

Rita,
I am interested in what further information you have on "Sizer's Farm", South Somercotes.   I know that a family of Sizers  lived in South Somercotes for many years, and I would like to get a handle on them - for example, I believe that there was a Herbert Sizer in that family and also another Herbert Sizer living in North Somercotes (this latter one being my maternal grandmother's brother)

One Name Studies: A to G / Re: BEDFORD, London Middx Kent, All dates
« on: Sunday 12 June 05 05:25 BST (UK)  »
I have a Sarah Rachel DREW who married Horace Edward BEDFORD on 14th April, 1879 in Mile End OT.   He was born about 1858 in MEOT.   Children of the marriage included
Walter BEDFORD bn abt 1881 Bermondsey
William BEDFORD bn abt 1887 Mile End
Jessie BEDFORD bn abt 1890 Chelsea
Alice BEDFORD bn abt 1891 Mile End
Annie BEDFORD bn abt 1892 Kings Cross.
Walter Bedford was not reported on the 1901 Census, and it is believed that he had emigrated to Canada - but I have not been able to prove this yet.   It is also thought that his mother, together with some of the family joined him there later - but again I am still attempting tio prove this.
Regards
Tony Drew
