Hello there
Is  there anyone from roughpark/aughinsh who may be able to throw any light at all on my gt gt grandmother a marjory (coyle.) who was  born there in  1849 Her parents were a hugh (coyle) and rossana (coyle )maiden name (freel).marjory coyle left ireland at a young age and sailed to glasgow where she settled ,possibly without her parents .at the age of 19 in 1866 she met and married a patrick o'flannagan who originated from armagh.try as i may she remains elusive, the slightest piece of information which may come from later generations in roughpark/aughinsh would i assure you be truly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.  HartleyJames Connelly.

Hi barbara
what a great piece of advice from you for which i thank you.In response to the points raised i have managed to establish this about .on the 28th/12/1907 aged 25 years. johns son whos name was samuel connelly was admitted to the govan poorhouse.in 1906 both georgina and his father john connelly were both dead.georgina connelly maiden name mac kenzie had a father whom i understand was a soldier and his name was george mackenzie, hence i assume the daughter being called georgina.it would appear that john died and georgina went on to marry a donald simpson.i have georginas death certificate and she died in inverness aged 56 in 1906 so from that i deduce georgina was born in 1850.in 1889 on the 8th  of november at saint margarets church john connellys so william connelly aged 23 in kinning park glasgow married a catherine flannagan aged 19.with regard to john connelly leaving ireland around 1820 as a young man with his father nicholas they settled  initially in roxburghshire and this is where i think he met georgina.his father nicholas met a bridget cairns in roxburghshire and married her however i do not think they lived long.any idea where i go from here would be much appreciated ,  regards ballymacnab

 Hi Barbara
Thankyou so much for your response it is i assure you truly appreciated. However i have a very limited knowledge on my gt grandfather nicholas connelly.Nicholas had a son by the name of john connelly and he died in marlow st glasgow which is stated in the 1881 census aged 64 years of age and he was married to a georgina mac kenzie who was the informant,Where the roxburghshire connection comes in is that johns father was a NICHOLAS CONNELLY described as a farmer from roxburghshire and nicholas was marr ied  to a woman by the name of BRIDGET CAIRNS whom i presume he married in roxburgh shire is this a roxburghshire name.Nicholas when he left ireland settled in roxburghshire but i dont think he was there for long and he also brought his son over with him . I  presume his wife must have died at an early age in ireland so we are talking about a period 1820s.I am truly perplexed where i can go from here and any further light would i assure you be truly appreciated.would the name kelso be of any relevance .  Kind Regards Hartley James Connelly.

Hello P.M.
Firstly let me thank you for you response it is i assure you appreciated as this is a difficult one. What i do know as fact   i have my gt grandmothers Marjorie coyles marriage register certificate is that she was married  on the 8th of january 1866 at the roman catholic cathedral in gt clyde st  glasgow at the age of 19 years to a pATRICK O'Flannagan who was 23 years of age who came from armagh.I do not know if marjorie coyles parents left donegal  with her to come to glasgow with her. This period of her birth was a very traumatic time as she was born in the middle of the famine period. The reason why i know marjorie coyle was born in a place called roughpark in donegal is that on the 5th/07/1907 marjorie applied for parish poor relief in glasgow and she told the assistant inspector for poor relief that she was 58 years old and that she had no means and that she was the daughter of hugh coyle  a drain maker (whatever that is ) and her mother was rossana freel from donegal. the inspector wrote down  rushpark donegal however as there is no rushpark in donegal he missunderstood her and what she really said was roughpark donegal as being her place of birth, That still leaves me with the problem as to where she was born. There is a (hugh coyle) living in rathmelton in church st aughnish 64 kilmacrenan donegal  in the griffith valuation .  and the immediate lessor is a mary coyle . i have a hunch that this may be  my gt grandmothers marjorie coyles father (Hugh Coyle). It would be wonderful if i could establish that .In the meant that?.thanks so much, ballymacnab

Hello
My gt grandfather left ireland in the early 1800s and settled somewhere in roxburghshire.they were called farmers? .i am of the view on the scant information i have is that they may have lived in loughinisland county down.Nicholas wife i presume died as she never came to scotland with him they later left roxburghshire and went on to edinburgh and glasgow. the only tangible factual information i have is the father and son name connection of (nicholas and john  connelly) where else could i look wherby i can use this name connection  ?  i do know that nicholas went on to marry a roxburghshire girl called georgina mac kenzie .any thoughts on where i could go from here would be truly appreciated.  regards Hartley James Connelly.

Hello there
This appears to be a mission impossible due to such an early date 1847.Could someone be kind enough to advise me where roughpark is in donegal. My gt grandmother was marjory coyle born in roughpark in 1847 to a hugh coyle and a rossana coyle maiden name (freel).Marjory left donegal at an early age and settled in glasgow , i dont think that her parents went with her.The area that she settled in was kinning park and marlow st and stockwell st and king st in the city.At the age of 19 years she  got married to a patrick  flannagan aged 23 years who originated from armagh they married in the roman catholic cathedral in gt clyde st glasgow in january 1866.I would dearly love to find something out about this area called roughpark in donegal.and in particular any reference to my ancestors i.e. what did they do in donegal did they have any other children? .there is an old story in the family that in 1847 marjory went into the workhouse as a baby .surely that cant be possible? however we all know how this old family stories perptuate. If you could throw any light on this subject i would be delighted to hear from you or if you have a family connection to my coyles or freels i would love to hear from you. kind regards Hartley James Connelly.
