Hi Inghamite
I do know Katrina. I do not use emails much as I do not have the internet at my home, but I have an email address. Not sure how to send it to you though. I am intending to document as fully as I can the story of Jane and her time in Aus. Researching the places she lived from the moment of her arrival. Be in touch

Hi Inghamite
I have found out a lot about Jane Garbutt (Temple). My line is COG - John Overend Garbutt - Evelyn May was my grandmother. I have worked out that Jane did not come alone but with her sister and brother -in-law and their 3 children. The brother in law, John James Wilson died in 1865, one of his sons William Overend died just before Jane did in August 1875. The other son who is a cousin of COG worked with COG at Mt Cotton (the place was called Doongabbin) and subsequently with the family at Coolgarra, in the butcher shop there.
Have made assumptions about the move to Aust:  all the important family members died in England, i.e. husband, father? grandfather?.  Or she wanted to improve her social standing or wanted to leave a place that was rapidly changing because of the industrial revolution. Norton and Stockton  are now suburbs of Middlesbrough a major industrial city. Went to the original address in 2009. No 3 The Square was a police station. What was a village in 1850 is all gone.
