Hello

Thanks to all who have posted replies to my message and apologies for not responding, not sure why I have not been receiving notifications, but thanks to Sarah for trying to contact me to let me know.  I  will attempt to look into the technical bit after this!

Clairee_annaa - hello and thanks for your message.  My grandmother only told the story of the night the bombs hit Higher Broughton once and it was never mentioned again.   I remember she said she would never forget what she saw.  I did not dare ask any questions as I  remember being too afraid and its too late now.

I wish I could give you some information but all I know is she was invited to a birthday party at the house next door  to your grandmother's.  The Cotterill family.  She didn't go because her father, (my great grandfather) was coming home on leave from his war duties.  I am sure she must have known your grandmother.  My gran was also 16 at the time.

I have a couple of pictures of the croft on Walnut Street but sadly, none of the houses before they were bombed.  I also have a picture of what appears to be a street party on Walnut Street with lots of people I cannot identify apart from my grandmother and two of her brothers.  If you want to PM me I would be happy to share these with you. x

Hutch16 - hello, I also have the Martin family in my tree.  My great granddad's sister, Maria married Harry Martin.  I recognise the names you mention but only from my research, I wasn't around to meet any of them then.

Poppy x

dawnsh - yes I did, clicked too quickly!  Thank you very much for the link and the information, I now understand what that figure means.  If I'd have calmed down a bit and not panic researched (read a million documents at the speed of light because it was a major discovery and not concentrated properly), then I probably could and should have solved it myself!!

Carol - I have decided it will remain a mystery for me.  Maybe she won it at Bingo!  I have been told she took in washing and made meals for a single gentleman, so perhaps he left her something when he died.

Thanks,
Pip

brentor boy & carol8353

Thank you both very much for your replies.

brentor boy - if the Will was, for example, incomplete and she therefore died intestate, does that mean a sole Administrator would be appointed or would it be more than one Administrator?

Carol8353 - No, she did not own her own house.  She did not work, her husband was a Labourer and he died in the 1970's.  I was just curious to know where that amount of money had come from which I guess cannot be answered here!  I was puzzled with the specific amount of £115,000 and what that indicated.

Jomot thanks for your reply.  I have searched various websites but still didn't quite get exactly what it meant.  It wasn't clear to me what figure it would be from.  It would tie in if it was a lot less than £115,000 !  Many thanks for your reply.

Hello

I have just discovered an entry in the England & Wales National Probate Register for my grandmother.  From the early 90's.  Please could someone tell me what "Administration with will ..... not exceeding £115000"  means?  We were not aware she had anything near that amount.

Thank you.

Thank you both for your help, I am amazed.  I didn't  have a clue that there was an Elizabeth b 1875.      Now I am wondering what else I  have got missing/wrong in my tree!

I know that James and Elizabeth moved to Salford sometime between 1891 and 1901.   I have always thought that the reason was because they had a major tragedy which was around 1890.  Elizabeth's mum and dad drowned in the ship canal in Runcorn. Neither could swim. It was thought that the mother slipped and fell in and her husband tried to save her because they were found the next day with him holding onto her neck scarf.  His other hand had dirt and mud on it so it was thought he had tried to claw his way back up.  So maybe their daughter Elizabeth was so distraught that they had to move away and Fred's  baptism was put aside.

Yes it could well be that the parents gave the wrong yob, That seems to happen a lot in this part of the family.  The dob is from Fred's baptism record, as I don't have his BC yet.  But as you say, it does give 1893 on both Cheshire and FreeBMD.  Pip.

Gibel - thanks very much for the suggestion, will have a look.

lancsann  - Fred was born 12 August 1892, baptised 9 December 1903 at St Clements, Ordsall (Lancs OPC).  I agree with the death details too. Also, I have been unable to ascertain the whereabouts of Fred's brother Isaac Whitby during the dates you mention.  I will keep looking.
Thanks v much for your help though.  Pip.

Thanks lizdb - no problem, I do that all the time!

Thanks lancsann for the suggestions. Yes they did have 6 children and they were all alive in 1911.  I don't believe they would forget how many children they had, so there is a reason buried in there somewhere!  I have searched for Fred in the criminal register and cant find anything.  I am not sure where to look for hospital records, but its possible.  I know he was blind in one eye but not sure whether that was from birth, accident or other. Thanks for trying.   Pip
