Thank you everyone for this excellent help.  It has been a long while since I logged on last but I have taken up my study of the family tree again and was very impressed to see the help you have given me.  Yes, Elizabeth Catherine Patrick was my grandmother and my grandfather is listed as ship breaker's labourer (on my father's birth certificate I think).  Thanks particularly for the help with the old map site - very interesting.

Can anyone tell me whereabouts this was in Bradford?  On the modern map I can only find Francis Street.  Perhaps someone knows of an older edition of the Bradford street map with this street on it?

thanks

Lovely set of images, maps and information.  My father was born in 24 Boca Chica but moved away at the age of 2 so had no memories of the place at that time.  He returned for annual holidays for some time and would have been able to give some later memories of the place were he still with us.  It is wonderful for me to see the place where he was born and lived the early part of his life.

My father, William Fergus Helliwell, was born at 24 Boca Chica in 1923.  I'm looking for any information about the street itself; when the houses were built, demolished and so on.  What type of houses were they and if they were rented or owned?
Any other related information would also be welcome.  My grandfather had the surname "Helliwell" and was from Bradford but my grandmother who was from the area was a "Patrick".  Even the slightest amount of information would be welcome.

thanks

Sorry, I should have checked, but the suggestion in KGarrad's post of "Sarah Ann Willetts" should read "Sarah Jane Willets" according to my search results.  I have sent for the wedding certificate to see if it matches.

The death certificate only says E Helliwell.  The initial is not easy to read but that is what I think it is.

In 1881 census in the Helliwell Buildings at Warley in the district of Sowerby Bridge there is a Margret Helliwell aged 71 as Head of Household.   There is one married son, John H and one unmarried son, Ellis.  There is one married daughter by the name of Ellen Helliwell (John's wife and could be daughter-in-law?).  There is one granddaughter and two grandsons.  The granddaughter is called Sarah Ann Helliwell.  The daughter, Ellen, is 25 years old, the granddaughter, Sarah Ann is 20 years old which seems way too high.  The grandsons are suitably young at 3 and 0.

A separate family, at Rails Lane in Midgley, has two granddaughters, Sarah Ann Helliwell and Emily Helliwell.  This means that the two Sarah Ann Helliwells I have found both have sisters with the initial "E".
Damn.

Sarah Ann Helliwell aged 28
December quarter 1889

This person died of TB on 3rd October 1889 at 82 Haigh Street, Halifax and  was reported by her sister who was present at the death.  Both sisters have the same surname and it is highly likely that they were both single.  It would also be unusual for William Fergus not to be in attendance at his wife's death.  So it seems that one Sarah Ann Helliwell was single and one died before William was married.  I now feel stumped. ???

I can't find any "William McCall" born anywhere in Scotland from 1837 to 2000.  Is it possible there is some kind of error on the census form?
