This is to confirm that Joseph Watson and Alice first settled in Toronto at the address you have identified and that his eldest son did cross to Canada and stayed a while before moving onto Vancouver.  Joseph senior and Alice eventually moved to Niagara Falls where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Hi Mike:

Grandfather Joseph Watson & family lived in Mimico. In fact Dad was born in Mimico if I am not mistaken.

Alice is Grandmother's name. Our father's name is William Gordon Grey Watson and our aunt is Zena Margaret. So the Children's names are similar. The census takers could have made a mistake in getting the children's names correct.

Cheers.

Bill

I good to hear from you again, I've sent off the message to Canada, spent a week last year over in Canada staying with Joseph Watson. I have attempted to attach a photo of Alice Hood who is in her mid eighties when it was taken. She being the nurse they all mention in the great elope of 1907

Well after a long absence from this saga of the Watsons I am amazed to find your still going and unearthing so much about this family. What have I started?
I visited Canada and met William and Joseph Watson the grandchildren of Joseph Watson and my great auntie Alice the nurse that he eloped with, formally of Low Gardham farm.
Note how the continue to use the Watson names of William and Joseph.
Joseph return to England a year after arriving in Canada and I now see why, it was due to the death of his Wife Lavinia and it maybe that his eldest son followed him back. My understanding is that Joseph and Alice never got married but made out that they were and no one knew any wiser. They are both buried together in the same grave in the church yard in Niagara Falls where they lived. I have visited the grave and also the house in which they lived. Joseph worked for the parks authority maintaining the gardens etc.
Regarding 14 Queensgate Beverley as a matter of interest, the numbering originally use to go from 1 to 2 to 3 and continue before they introduced even numbers one side of the street and odd on the other side.(one of those boring facts).
Anyway nice to hear your all still going strong, well done.

Hi Martin, I can not help you with much, I really never got time to ask grandfather much before he died.
My grandfather was known as Percy Hood, i never knew about the George bit until his death. He joined at the out break of war and fought in the first world war 1914 to 1918 in the Northumberland Fusiliers along with all his brothers.
I have a picture shows him in uniform with two of his brothers, unfortunately he was seriously wounded, having received a stomach wound on an advance at the enemy lines. He was left for dead on the battle field but he eventually, holding in his stomach crawled two miles back to his own lines during the night. Thereafter he spent a year in hospital recovering from his terrific wounds.
He received a medal for his outstanding achievement of which I am the present keeper.
Of all the brothers that went to fight in this horrific war only one (Albert) was killed.
Ernest his brother won the Military Medal for gallantry.
Ten years ago I visited their museum at Anwick but they were not forth coming in helping me discover anything about him.
Mike.
