Thanks DOB7.  I have contacted him before, but not on this as I don't think the records are to be found in Cornwood (I could be wrong, but I've had a pretty good look there).

Was the Haly you mentioned baptised in 1715? If so, he's my Haly's grandson.  If not, I'd love further details if you have them.

I was actually hoping someone had already done the work of tracing Haly back further - I don't want to put anyone else to the trouble of trawling through records that I can probably plow through myself!

Thanks for the advice

Kim

Devon / Haly Horton, Cornwood, 1600s

Hoping someone can help -

My (8x) ggrandfather, Haly Horton, married Mary Trobridge in Cornwood in 1685.  Does anyone know where & when he was born?

Mary I have as born in Thorverton, Devon, in 1664 - but only from 'most likely' FamilySearch result.  No idea if it's correct or not.  Anyone have a more positive result?

Incidentally, my grandfather was Richard Horton, born 1899 in St Neot, Cornwall, who emigrated to Australia after WWI.  His father's family (William Alexander Horton b.1870) was from Cornwood.

Thank you
Kim

Stirlingshire / Re: Blackadder in Falkirk.

I also realise that this is an old thread - hopefully it's still being looked at!  My ancestor is William Blackadder 1810-1859, possibly son of James Blackadder & Margaret Kerr.  He married Anne Poole in Sydney in 1833, & died 1859 as a result of a "fall whilst intoxicated"! He & Anne had 8 children, 5 of whom survived him.  My gggrandfather was his son James.

I have searched everywhere I can think of, & can find no record of William's journey to Australia - presumably around 1830.  This in itself would indicate that he was not a convict, but whether he was an "assisted immigrant" or worked or paid his passage, I don't know.

My questions are, how can I be sure that he is James & Margaret's son, & how did he get here?  Can anyone help?

I am happy to provide details of Australian descendants, by the way.
Thank you in advance
Kim
