I am so grateful to you Bookbox for that - I had tried to find this out prior to my post, without success, so it highlights the invaluable expertise and knowledge that Rootschatters like yourself possess!

Thanks also for your kindness and help,

Kit

London and Middlesex / help please with burial st sepulchre's, 1764

Please can anyone help with the following burial in St Sepulchre's:

Henry Hunt buried 9/9/1764 "in Bay Cock Lane"

I presume that "in Bay Cock Lane" was the abode where the death occured.

But can anyone shed light on exactly what the "Bay" meant - I presume it was an area within the parish, presumably linked to The Old Bailey?

Also, am I right in assuming that he was actually buried in the graveyard of St Sepulchre's?

I'd be very grateful for any help,

Thanks,

Kit

Thank you very much for your kind replies.

I really appreciate your invaluable help - I couldn't make out the word "Reformed", and it's good to have it confirmed that he was an adult.

Thank you again,

Kit

Limerick / help with baptism? 1817, St Michael's RC Limerick

Please can anyone shed some light on the following event, dated 2/6/1817 in St Michael's RC, Limerick:
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635023?locale=en#page/118/mode/1up
It's for George Hunt - I think he is being Received into the church.

Please can anyone tell me if this is probably an adult who is being received into the church, and would he probably have been previously a different denomination eg possibly anglican?

Also, on the left hand page, at the top, I think it says:
"List of ? Protestants"
Please, can anyone tell me what this says exactly?

Thanks very much,

Kit

Thanks very much for that rathmore - I didn't have the one for Richard Hunt Junior, so that's great.

Please, is there anyone who can confirm that the symbol, (which I think is an) I, is an abbreviation for Inventory?

Thanks, I really am grateful for your help,

Kit

Occupation Interests / Re: how were surgeons trained abut 1800

Thank you all for your very interesting replies, which are bursting with information and helpful advice, which I will follow up on.

My ancestor was John Hunt, and as far as I can determine, he was born about 1784, but I don't know where. He may not have been born in Ireland.

Several years ago, I contacted The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, only to be told by them, that they did not have a record for him.

I really would love to find a university record for him, but I'm not sure, at this time, if most universities taught medicine/pharmacology/surgery etc., apart from Edinburgh, and would welcome any information anyone might have on this.

I'd be grateful for any further help,

Many thanks,

Kit

Thanks for that
Yes, I know that prior to 1837, there was not a huge amount of information, but I was hoping to see the names of the Witnesses!
But as you say, at least I have got the information from the Bond.

Thanks again,
Kit

Occupation Interests / how were surgeons trained abut 1800

Hi,

My ancestor was an Assistant Surgeon in the Limerick County Militia from about 1815 to about 1850.

Please, does anyone know how he would have been trained - would he have studied medicine at University? I'd be very grateful for any help or advice on this.

Thanks,

Kit

Thanks very much to both of you for your replies.

That explains why I cannot find the Marriage Certificate! What a terrible shame, but at least I have got the Marriage Bond.

Thanks very much - I really appreciate your help and kindness,

Kit
