Hi KR,
Yes please. It may give some small detail that could be helpful. It's certainly an enigma!

Hi KR,
Just to compound matters further. I looked at the IGI on the LDS site last night & someone has now put on there a birth for a George Frost, parents, George Frost & Ellen & the entry was made the day before William Frost & Ellen Jarvis got wed. The bapt. was on Sunday & they got wed on Monday!
The mind boggles! :)

Hi KR,
I have searched everywhere for a marr. & have had a researcher searching for me down in London too but have never been able to find this marriage.
The weird thing about this is the statement on George (jnr's) birth cert. which clearly says Ellen Frost (formerly Jervis) so from that I have always assumed that they were married before his birth in 1845.
On top of that the 70th Foot came back to England in 1843 but left for Ireland at the latter end of 1845 so even that fits into the scenario.
Although it's a chance in a mill. there may have been 2 Ellen Jarvises or she may have thought that she would never see George (snr) again & married William bigamously. That raises another Q. What was William, a tailor from Essex doing in Manchester at that specific time, when all the family roots are in Essex & Suffolk?
A real quandary!

Thanks for those KR.
This is a real mystery! I have a B. Cert. from Dec. 1845  for my Gt. Grandfather named George Frost. He was born in Deansgate, Manchester. On it his mother is named as Ellen Frost (formerly Jarvis) & his father is given as GEORGE Frost, Pte. in 70th Regiment of Foot.
Now I know for a fact that the older George is the son of Jeremiah, tailor & I have his service record which helped me to find him on the 1861 when he is described as a tailor but at that time he is with his brother Ambrose's family in Essex which is were he was born ( Jeremiah was also) but there is no wife for George.
He did have a brother named William but how can 2 brothers marry a  girl with the same name, & the 2nd one marries her just 2 months after the  birth of a son by the first one? In addition she uses her maiden name on the birth cert. & on the marriage to his brother!
On top of all that on the younger George's marr. cert. in 1873, he says that his father, George, is a tailor! So everything fits exactly except for this Jarvis woman!
A right puzzler this one!

Thanks Again;

Hi Ken,
Thank you for the info. Unfortunately I don't have his papers. He was out of the army when he got married in january 1873, but I can at least try to follow up on the records that you have suggested. As usual I shall probably have to search a bit more diligently than normal as his wedding is right on the cusp of 1872/73.
Thank You.

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Manchester Cathedral Look Up
« on: Saturday 09 February 08 01:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
Could someone look up 2 marriages for me at Manchester Cathedral please?:-
a) George Frost=Sarah Wiggins Bradshaw; 18/09/1845.
b) William Frost=Ellen Jarvis ; 26/01/1846.
I am trying to find George Frost marr. to Ellen Jarvis & I am wondering if 1 or the other of these is a mistranscription. He was a serving soldier in the 70th Foot. His father's name is believed to be Jeremiah Frost.
If someone could try to get me all the details of these 2 marriage entries then I can eliminate either 1 or both.
Thank You;
Regards;
Derek :)

Thanks everyone for info. tips etc. It looks like the best bet is to get the details of the 1846 wedding just to confirm or eliminate it. I've been on this for a lot longer than 2 years it's more like 20!
Best Wishes;
Derek :)
