In 1871 Benjamin states he was born Horse Hay. RG10/2975 f15 p23

Baptism at Dawley
11th January 1824
Benjamin son of Rosanna Tranter (Spinster) - abode Horse Hay

I did see that baptism, but was still trying to look for William. Thanks - I have had this many times before, so another false dad's name on the marriage certificate.

What are William & Benjamin's occupations on the 1843 marriage cert?

Have you ruled out the 1841 Staffordshire entry  Piece 982 Book 9 Folio 35 Page 18

They are both miners. I will look at that thanks.

Shropshire / Benjamin Tranter born abt 1825 Madeley
« on: Yesterday at 20:41 »
I need help with this family please. Benjamin Tranter was born abt 1825 in Madeley, Shropshire. He marries Mary Miner (my relative) on the 17th Feb 1843 at Madeley. His father is named as William Tranter. I have struggled to find Benjamin on the 1841 census and Benjamin and Mary on the 1851 census. I am also struggling with their children:

1. Hannah Ellen Tranter born in 1843. I have found her birth record, but no trace of her after this
2. George Tranter born 1848 and died 1849
3. Amelia Tranter born 1850 - this is on the 1861 census when they are living in Oldbury Staffordshire, but I can't find a birth record for her or any other information about her apart from this census so not sure if it is a mistake
4. Caroline Tranter born 1850 and marries Samuel Ingram in 1873
5. Benjamin Tranter born 1853 and marries Jane Venables in 1873
6. Emily Tranter born 1856, later her name changes to Emma Tranter and she marries Joseph Jones in 1877

Benjamin Tranter dies in 1874 in West Bromwich, Stafforshire. Mary dies in 1879 in West Bromwich, Stafforshire.

There are so many gaps in this family that I am struggling to fill in.

Can you expand the information you are giving please -

  * "Nancy was then adopted by another family."
What information do you have about the family that raised Nancy?.  These arrangements often   involve extended family.

 * Can you list everything on the birth certificate, 1910.
There should be a place of birth, name of informant, date and place of registration.

On the 1911 census Nancy was a nurse child living with a Fred Staveley and Florence E Staveley. On the 1921 census Nancy is living with a James Edward Starbrook and Mary Sophia Starbrook and is referred to as adopted child father dead. I know adoptions weren't legal then I have had this before, but they have listed her as that. I think the Starbrooks were actually Stainbrook. On the 1939 register Nancy is now married to Bernard Sidney Hutchinson and Mary S Stainbrook a widow is living with them.

Nancy May Macmillan was born on the 23rd May 1910 at 1 Bernard Terrace Nottingham. Her mother was Sara Macmillan housekeeper (domestic servant). Sara lived at 1 Arthur Street Nottingham. The birth was registered on the 20th June 1910.

There is a Sarah McMillan born 1881 in Kirkmaiden parish (mmn Wilson).
Drummore is in Kirkmaiden parish, Wigtownshire.

Drummore is also farm near Kirkcudbright, can't see a birth there.

hmcc

This Sarah seems to be still with her dad as a farm servant in Kirkmaiden on the 1901 census.

Yes Dromore was named as her birth place on the 1911 census. On the 1921 census Kirkcudbright was named as her birth place. I have tried to look for all the Sara(h)s and also any MacMillans that moved to the Nottingham area, but haven't found anything.

My relative Nancy May MacMillan was born in Nottingham in 1910. On her birth certificate her mother is named as Sara MacMillan a domestic servant with no father named. Nancy was then adopted by another family. I have found Sara on the 1901 census in Nottingham as a servant aged 24 so born abt 1877. She is on the 1911 census in Nottingham as a housekeeper birth abt 1881. She is on the 1921 census in Nottingham as a housekeeper born abt 1885. She is on the 1939 register born 24 Nov 1888 as a housekeeper. She dies in Nottingham in 1944 birth year abt 1885. She never marries.

I have tried to find her in Scotland before this and to try and find out her actual age, but haven't been able to. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I have found a marriage for Margaret on 6th May 1915 in Glasgow to a John B MC Gunn who was a soldier in WW1. His mother was a single woman called Lizzie Gunn and he was born in 1889. I think he was fostered by a family who has Francis Main as the head and he is with him on the both the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Margaret is a widow by 1921 when she marries Finlay Macrae. She also applies for John Gunn's (and he also goes by John Main) WW1 pension. I am assuming John died in WW1, but I cant find a death that matches him. Can anyone see what I have missed?
