Looks like he went to Australia in 1909

FindmyPast/ Ancestry have the image, he was a saddler

Thanks - I missed that when I looked for immigration. Yes that must be him. I had been looking in the USA!

And no I didn't have that newspaper article.

Thanks

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / George Miner born 1867 Walsall

Hi  - would really appreciate some help. I am trying to complete my Miner family tree that my late dad started. George was born in 1867 in Walsall - the son of George Miner and Jane Jones. He is with his parents in Ryecroft Hilll on the 1871 and Rushall on the 1881 censuses. On the 1891 census he is still in Rushall with his mum after his dad died in 1887. He is 24 years old and is a saddlers ironmonger. I then can't find a trace of him at all. When his mum Jane died in 1907, he is an executor and still a saddlers ironmonger. I have ordered a copy of Jane's will which I am hoping has more information. I have looked for a marriage, census entries and a death for George, but can;t find anything. I have also scanned over immigration records, but nothing stands out.

Dad it seems was flummoxed as well because on the hand drawn tree he made he has a question mark under George! If anyone can find anything I would be so appreciative.

Thanks!

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for Norman Smith 1893 - 1950 - Walsall

Again thanks so much! No wonder i couldn't find him - different surname and different christian names! I am guessing that because they moved back to the area he lived with his first wife his dad possibly had to go by a different name because he was a bigamist.

And what a really interesting man Norman was  - I will get as much information about him as I can now that I know who he was. His youngest daughter married a family cousin, but no one knew anything about him. My dad was from Walsall and thought he knew pretty much everything about the extended family. It's a shame me has gone now. He would love this!

It sure looks like it! If only Norman's real father's name was on his marriage certificate and not Henry Smith. You have no idea how many Henry Smiths I discounted!

Thanks to all - I have my answers.

I only have free indexes, but 1921 census may be
In Darlaston
Gorman Smith, age 27 years 11 months, born Wakefield, Yorkshire
Mary Alice Smith, 27 years 9 months, Birmingham, Warwickshire
Mary Iris Smitten, 2 years 7 months, Darlaston, Staffordshire

That's him! Thanks so much!

That's great thanks everyone! He may well have been illegitimate and the father Henry on the marriage certificate was a lie. I still can't find him before his marriage. I am though buying his will!

His wife wasn't deceased at his death.
Or at least, he had a widow.

That’s great thanks! So he had three daughters! I had only found one possibly two.

1939 he and Mary are in Birmingham. DOB 1 July 1893. I'm struggling before and after the marriage. I note the eldest child is registered as Mary but is on 1939 as Iris M, so I wonder if he's swapping order of forenames

I saw that and wasn’t sure if it was him. I couldn’t find a birth for Iris Mary in 1918. Yes it could be Mary though!

What was Norman's occupation at marriage?
How old is he on the marriage certificate?
Who were the witnesses?
Where is he in 1921?  1939?

At his marriage he is an engineer and her is 24. The witnesses were a ? Jacques and an L Caldicott. I haven’t been able to find him in 1921 and 1939.
