In my chidrens family tree  thier g-grandfather was Sidney Charles Fookes 1910-1985 born in luton.
His Father was Frederick Charles Fookes born abt 1879 in leighton buzzard he married Maud Edith Gaylor.
Freds father was Thomas Fookes  born about 1841 in Bow-Brickhill he married Mary Ann Perry 1846. They had 10 children!! Albert 1871, Catherine L 1873,Annie 1876,Fanny 1877, FREDERICK CHARLES 1879,Walter j 1880,Thomas 1882,Lily 1885, James 1887 and i think its louise 1888, all in Bow Brickhill.
Thomas Fookes father was John Fookes 1809 who married Fanney ? they had i think 9 children , joseph 1833, louisa 1836,Ann 1838, Eliza 1840,Thomas 1841,sarah 1845,James 1848,john1850,Frederick 1855.
Thomas and John were builders/bricklayers.
Also the FOOKES name changes in the census s  fooks folk and fookes!!!!!!!!!!!
hope this helps?

I married into the Fookes family in 1997 (now divorced) and have 2 children with the surname ! i have traced their line back to Bow-brickhill beds  in 1841 but the surname keeps changing folk, fooks etc. I visited the village last year trying to find the church. I stopped two ladies walking a dog who laughed and said it was behind the very large trees!!!!!!!! . I have a few pictures of a Frederick Charles Fookes if interested. will post more info about tree later if you are interested.
