Chris!
Apologies! I must have had a 'senior' moment! (another one!) My Austen's weren't baptised at St John's but at All Saints! I did find some Austen's at St John's but don't know if they're connected to me.
I saw what I presume is your connection to Maythorne Mill-I know it well being a Notts lass & having family who live in Southwell-lovely place.

Hi Chris,
You very kindly helped me with my Taylor family-could I ask you now to help with my Austen family?
I have Stephen Austen (Austin on the igi) married at St Thomas to Elizabeth Broome in 1626, their 2 sons William Austen 1633 & Richard Austin 1637 were both baptised at St Johns. William married Ann Colman (shown as Willuam Astenn). Any info-baptisms, deaths or marriages of any other Austens at St John's would be most appreciated.

Hi Chris,
Thank you very much for your help -you are brilliant! Within 24 hours you provided me with some death dates of the TAYLOR family in Lewes. It only took a little deduction for me to be 99.9% sure I had found my  4 x gt grandfather & his father before him. So, if anyone else is looking for them, they are:- Thomas Tailler glazier married to Ann Astin (previous generations Astenn & Austen)on 5.9.1706, children John Tailer born 1710 St Thomas in the Cliffe died 1755 & Susanah born 1717 died 1719. John was also a glazier & the reason I'm confident that they are the Taylor's I'm looking for is the names of John's children-Ann, Susannah, Thomas etc.
Thank you once again.
Oh, could I ask you to check another detail for me please. Their daughter Lucy (Thompson) born 1748 died 1826-can you find her death date & burial place please? I know her children were born in East Hoathly. Hope you don't mind me asking-you have done so much already.

Success!!
Thank-you all very much for your help. I asked Chris to check out Lewes death records for me & I have been able to track my Taylor ancestors from his information! John Tailer was born in 1710 in Lewes the son of Thomas & Ann (nee Astin or, earlier back Austen)Tailler . Both Thomas & John were glaziers. I am at present checking on-line the Calendar of Sussex marriage licences which is very interesting.
Once again-many thanks.

Thanks Ladyhawk & Omega 1- I have searched the Sussex opc to no avail I'm afraid. I will have to look further afield-although the Head's do seem to have been around East Grinstead for several generations-maybe it was his wife who was from over the border somewhere. I tried the igi leaving the county blank but nothing that matched came up. Ah well, will just have to keep pegging away-it is frustrating to keep hitting a brick wall!

Hi Roy
Cest moi! I got the info from a distant Canadian relative!  Will keep pegging away at the info I do have & see what I can find. Trouble is I'm in Nottingham so can't get to the records office in Sussex to do any research.
