Hi All,

i haven't read this entire thread properly, and it's been ages since I have done any genealogy, but Dougal Burnside, and Mary are part of my family. Mary McMillan Murdoch, was married to THomas Burnside, and Dougal is their daughter Janets (my gggrandmother, who died in 1881) son. I'm not sure how they are connected to this family, I will look into it better, and see if I can dig my notes out.

Hi Sandy and Mags,

This looks like your family on freecen in 1841.  They are in Old monkland address is Cairnhill Row.

Archibald CAWIE M 49 Iron miner b OUTSIDE CENSUS COUNTY
Agness  44
James  11
George  7
William  1
Marion  11

the others are all born Lanarkshire, but looks like Archibald was not.  Still no OPR birth to be found.

do you have them on the 1851.

Hi Fred,

on the 1841 census,

Elizeabeth SNADDON  30
Elizeabeth McLUCKIE  10
George  10
Jennet  5
Alexander  2

Don't know who the Janet on the 1841 with Alexander is.  Maybe a daughter of Walter.  Not all births were recorded.

There is a birth on IGI for a Janet ALLAN McLUCKIE b1860 parents John McLUCKIE and Agnes WOODROW.  This John would have to be too young to be the son of The Janet ALLAN that was having children with Alexander McLUCKIE, but possibly a grandson.  Maybe tracing him back will help to identify family groups.  Also, some of my lines named children after family members who had just died,  which made me think have you looked for a death of a Janet McLUCKIE/ALLAN or McLUCKIE/LIVINGSTON?  Just did a free search on SP and there is a Janet McLUCKIE other name ALLAN who dies in 1865.

Hi Fred,

Walter that is staying with Alexander and Janet in 1841 is possibly their son, maybe you could try tracing him.  There is a marriage for a Walter McLUCKIE and Jane LIVINGSTON (sp?) in 1835 on IGI.  Don't know if it is the right one, but she dies (the OPRS for Shotts are online, there is a link to it on rootschat in the scotland resorces forum) which would explain why he is back with parents.

The 1841 census I got was from freecen, I don't know if you are aware of it, but it is online and free (most of the 1841 scottish census and bits of the 1851).  There is probably a link for it somewhere on the site.

Hi Norrie,

Have been on SP.  I haven't viewed any of these certs, but this is just info from my previous searches for Lochiels.

John LOCHIEL and Ann McBAIN m 1887 St Nicholas Aberdeen
Lily Ann LOCHIEL b 1892 St Nicholas AB
Annie LOCHIEL other name McBAIN d 1927 aged 71 st Nicholas Ab
Lily Ann LOCHIEL on KELMAN d 1934 Aberdeen

This looks like your family in the 1881, all at Old Machar , Aberedeen:

5 Kintore Place

John LOCHIEL  M 65
Margaret          F  55
Thomas            m  27
James               m  20
Margaret           f  12

67 Upper Denburn

George LOCHIEL  m 25
Mary                    f  25
George                m  5
Jane                     f  3
Margt.                  f  5m

62 Skene Square

John LOCHIEL   m  31
Christina           f  29
Duncan M          m  1

This John (who is probably the son of John and Margaret Blakie) Marries Christina Munro 1878.  Christina dies in 1884 aged 29.  And he could possibly then marry Ann McBAIN.  The certs actually need to be viewed to work it all out properly, as the original couple John LOCHELL and Ann HAY had other sons who could have kids with similar names.

Hi Norrie,

This is some of what I have for this family.

John LOCHELL m Ann HAY 4 Nov 1811

Children:

Alexander LOCHIEL b 22 Aug 1811  St Nicholas, Aberdeen
Charles LOCHIEL b 01 jul 1817 St Nicholas, Aberdeen
John Hay LOCHIEL b 15 Jan 1816 "      "           "
James LOCHIEL b 30 May 1825  "       '         "
Isabel LOCHIEL b 3 Oct 1827   "         "            "
Margaret LUCHALL b 28 Nov 1829  "      "       "

John Hay LOCHELL m Jane SMITH 2 Aug 1842 Old Machar, Aberdeen.
(I think this is possibly a first marriage, possibly where William 8 from the 1851 census comes from, there does not appear to be any children for this couple on the IGI)

As well as the children for John Hay LOCHIEL and Margaret BLAKE that Carol has found, there is also Mary Blake LOCHIEL b 1859 Marnoch, BANFF and Mary Ann LOCHIEL b1863 Turiff, ABERDEEN.

This is from my notes, I also have stuff from Scotlandspeople, but my computer is running very slow at the moment, so it's going to take me a while to get the info together.

The information about Ann MCCAIN and a daughter Lily doesn't quite add up.  The marriage date given is that of John LOCHIEL and Ann HAY and someone getting married in 1811 wouldn't be having a daughter in 1892.  It does look like there has been a generation missed out.

The information above is all extracted info from the IGI, the spellings are as they are on IGI, as this is a name that does not bring up variants.

Shall let you know what I have from SP when i get it together, but could be tomorrow.

Hi Norrie,

I also have LOCHIEL'S in my family.  The first documentation I have for mine is in Lanarkshire.  There is not many around and I know of this family you're researching.  There are a lot of spelling variations.  Leochell is another one.  I notice you are also researching Cunninghams.

It's late here is Oz, but will look at the post better tomorrow and see if I can add anything to what Carol has found.
