Sue, very many thanks! Have read a lot of the pension applications but hadn't come across that one - it was great to see his handwriting again. Are you related to Martha? She sounds like a remarkable woman. Could you also let me know the name of your book as I would like to get a copy.

many thanks again

Hi, I'm looking to see if anybody has any connection with a Pierce Grace who married a Bridget Callaghan in 1825 in Graiguenamanagh or their son Patrick who married a Mary Doyle in 1855, also in Graiguenamanagh.

many thanks

Liam

Hi, PCOB - check out the witness statements in Bureau of Military History. There are a number of references to a James Horan in Limerick / Tipperary. Also, there is a full statement (no. 596) by George Nolan who was in the ASU.
Have come across some pictures of some of the ASU in subsequent anniversaries, etc. Will try & recall where I saw them & see if George Nolan was in them....

Brilliant picture David - haven't seen that before. Do you know if similar ones were done for the other Battallions? - Have been trying to get a similar listing of the 2nd Battallion. thanks

Margnip, many thanks - I might try the National Museum as I may be able to narrow down a likely date my dad handed it in. Whether in any hand over, they also provided details of who had donated the items I'll just have to wait & see !

thanks again

Would anyone know what became of this & whether any of the exhibits were subsumed into another museum or collection.

I have come across a reference to my father presenting his Peter the Painter gun to the museum but have no idea when.

many thanks

Seems to be very little information on-line about this. Was researching my father who appears in the attached photo. Have been told the picture would have been taken in Griffith Barracks in 1939.

Would anybody know anything about this - was it just a precautionary initiative that faded away or was it in place for the duration of the war?

Any information or names of any of the individuals in the photo, would be really appreciated.

many thanks

Dublin / Town Hall Clontarf
« on: Monday 20 June 11 18:01 BST (UK)  »
While researching my late father, a number of documents show his address as c/o Town Hall in Clontarf. This would have been in the early 1920s when he was involved in the War of Independence. I haven't been able to track down if he - or anyone else - actually lived there or if it was used as a meeting area where post could be collected.

Would anybody know what the Town Hall would have been used for at that time? Have been in touch with the Hall but they don't seem to have records going back that far.

Many thanks
