Australia / Re: Hoare Family in Coolac & Cootamundra

Hi there Petwal

I am a direct relation of the Vincent family that you have mentioned. My mother and I have done extensive research on the Vincent family in and around the Coolac area. I have alot of research on all the Vincent children including those who went on to Marry into the Hoare family.

Both the Vincent and Hoara family were pioneering families in Coolac. I do have copies of the information on the pioneering families so can send you these as well if you like. This has some information on the families when they first settled.

Are you on ancestry? I can send you the link to see what information I have to see if it will help you at all.

Sorry to mallj i have only just checked this board and saw your message.

I have a bit of information on Martha Padget and her first marriage to Charles Johnson. They married in NZ in 1879 in Timaru from what i understand. They had 2 children in NZ and then followed Martha's family to Australia where Charles died not long after arrival. He is burried with Martha's baby sister Frances Padget in Rookwood cemetery in Sydney (we have a pic and details of this buriel plot). Martha went with her family to QLD where 10 years after the death of her first husband she re-married to Albert Henry Malon and had 3 more children. Martha died 5 April 1942 in Brisbane.

I have a lot more information on the Padget's now. If you want to PM me feel free to. I'm also on ancestry and more than happy to share any details!

I've been to the website, it had some info which proved helpful!

I hope to one day go to England and visit the pub! It'd be awesome to walk in the steps of my ancestors!

Hi Julie!

William and Martha Padget are my 3rd great grandparents. One of their daughters, Elizabeth Padget B: 1866 married a Cooper and a few generations later here i am!

I've done a lot of research on the Padget family and due to the move to New Zealand before Australia it was difficult to track them but i spent many a hours gathering as much information as i could. I've managed to find quite a bit of information with the help of historial societies and museums in NZ as well as QLD records and my Grandfather who remembers his Grandmother Elizabeth Padget and her family very well. He has been a great help in my ancestry research!

I have gone back to 1600 on the Padget side. On the Clapham side i have also gone back to 1600. I have found no link to Jewish ancestry there. Martha Clapham's parents were-

John Clapham born 29 Jan 1810 died 1 Jan 1871 and Harriet Dunnil (sometimes spelt Dunhil) born 20 March 1807. They were born and lived in in Yorkshire England. They had 5 children - Frances 1833, Ann 1835, Elizabeth 1835, Martha 1836 and Thomas 1839. Thomas and his family also went to New Zealand shortly after his sister and her family.

I'm happy to share any other information with you if you want! Feel free to private message me and i'll give you my e-mail address. Or even better let me know your ancestry address and i'll invite you to see my family tree. Might help both of us!

Australia / Re: Native of Australia
« on: Thursday 07 July 11 07:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi Dawn

They were born in the Dowling Downs area of QLD. My Grandfather (that side of the tree) actually did tell me there was a large Aboriginal population known to be around the area of the property and they are a couple of off shoots from my line who were half Aboriginal (cousins of the birth i'm looking at). But because there are little records i'm frustrated trying to find any information.

I've only been able to track one parent as that is all the detail that was given. The mother was from England.

Thanks for the info about names and such. I didn't know that.

Australia / Native of Australia
« on: Thursday 07 July 11 06:37 BST (UK)  »
I've got a birth certificate for a family member in QLD born in the early 1800's with 'native of australia' printed on it. Not sure what this means as i've never seen it before on any other birth certificate i've got. This particular person i have been able to track only 1 parent but not the other.  I've had someone once tell me it means they are Aboriginal or at the very least part Aboriginal. It's been bugging me and i'd like to know for sure what it means?

Just wondering if anyone might know what it means?

Thanks!

Thank you so much! Great help! I'm going to buy her certificate even though she isn't a direct ancester i am curious.

I didn't know why William and his family packed up and came to Australia but now i know why as he went bankrupt.

I'll be contacting some Padget's now in NZ to see if they are any relation. I was planning a trip to Invercargill later this year and it's strange i didn't even know they were burried there.

Thank you again for all your help! Much appreciated!

New Zealand Completed Requests / Padget family in NZ
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 11:22 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out information on the Padget family in New Zealand. William and Martha Padget arrived in NZ from England in 1859 on the Strathallan with 2 babies (1 born on board) and had a further 11 children in NZ.

Sometime between 1880 and 1882 they travelled to Australia with only 10 of their children. I have been unable to find them arriving in Australia (their youngest died in Australia Jan 1882 so i know they arrived before then.) Does anyone know of any websites i can use to find them arriving in Aus from NZ?

Also i am researching the 3 children who stayed in NZ. One of the sons Samuel Leonard married a Mary Robina Kae. I have been unable to find Mary's parents, however i have found her birth in 1863 but there are no parent names on her birth record. Does anyone know why this might have been? I have found 3 other children born around the same time with the last name Kae but no parents as well. As i am unfamiliar with NZ records i'm not sure why this would be the case. So any help on this would be great!
