Hi there, thankyou for your advice.  I have looked at the data you suggested but it was a while ago and I was new to searching, I may have missed something so will look again.  I have written to Milnhorn Farm which is now a riding stables, but they didn't answer sadly.  I've also tried to find a current adress for Blacklaw Farm to do the same but no joy yet.  None of the names you mentioned are in our tree, which could mean my family were tennant farmers rather than land owners?  it is intriguing and frustraing in equal measure.  All the best with your searching :)

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for information about my GGGGGG Grandmother John Leith Watson born 1764 - the daughter of James Watson of Milnhorn (possibly a military man) and Jennet (surname unknown).  She was named for her benefactor who promised to leave his or her estate to the firstborn child of James and Jennet if named after him/her - some several million pounds in todays money.  The parents were taking no chances and promptly baptised their daughter John!  It is an intriguing story but I cannot find out anything about the name of the benfactor or a will.  John Leith was baptised in London.  Can anyone help?

Aberdeenshire / Has anyone heard of Auchinbody?
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 09:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone.  I have an ancestor 'Mortimer of Auchinbody'.  He lived in the 1500's - 1600's and his descendants settled mainly in Aberdeenshire, in Craigston, Idon and Cromarty and Balthangie.  He is only a name on an ancient family tree.  No other documents or information is available.  I would dearly love to know where theseplaces are of if anyone else has Mortimer in their family tree?  Hi daughter Beatrice married a Mackie.

Hi Chris, I'm new to Rootsweb so please let me know if I've done this incorrectly.  I hope this reaches you!

I would love your help to look at Rye and Battle baptism, marriage and burial records.  I am in New Zealand and unable to search in person for a solution to my brick wall in the early 1700's.

I'm not sure how to keep an eye out for your reply but I will watch the sight.

kind reagrds

Helen
