Thanks to you both - it was just a possibility that if it had been a refuge or seamen's mission or somesuch then there may have been some record of him that would help me to track him after his initial arrival back in UK. :)

A merchant seaman, Thomas Wells aged 62, arrived from Brisbane as a Distressed British Seaman in 1924 and his UK address given as the above, but I'm unable to find any more after his arrival. I'm thinking it may have been a seamen's refuge of some sort. I believe he had joined the navy in Swansea aged 16, but I have very little info on him apart from his birth origins in Portsea.

Does anyone know the history of 16 Kempthorne Street? It seems to be in a shopping centre nowadays, interestingly a Forces Charity Shop?  Is that coincidental or connected with it's history as some sort of refuge?

Philip's second wife was Lois Ann McCormack, by whom I think he had the two sons, possibly both born in Phoenix.

The following is some basic information on Phil Taylor (not the one who lost his leg) that I found since my original post on this subject. Errors and confusions abound, but the following is from reliable sources.

Philip George Taylor b.1895 Southend-on-Sea, Essex (Father George Henry, butcher)

George emigrated with his family to Canada before WWI. Philip served in Canadian Overseas Force.

Married Jane Elizabeth Olwen Bicknell 29 Nov. 1917 in St Mary's Church, Wimbledon

Philip & Jane had 3 children together: Olwen Megan 1920-1993, Stephen George & Philip Bert

Phil Taylor died 1959 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Occupation Interests / City Magistrates Officer - Edinburgh

One of my relatives is described on his marriage and death certificate as variously "City Officer" or "City Magistrates Officer".   He lived in Edinburgh from 1801-1865.
I cannot find this occupation on Scotlands People or my other usual online resources.  ??? Sounds like law enforcement of some kind? Can anyone enlighten me, please?  Thanks ??? :)

I am hoping someone can help me to find out more about Phil Taylor's birth and family - parents, grandparents. Googling his name tells me he was born 1895 (but where??) and died 1959 in New York. From his marriage record to Jane Elizabeth Olwen Bicknell (born Liss, Hampshire) in 1917 his father was George Henry Taylor, a Butcher. Other than that I and an Australian descendant have drawn a blank on his family background.

His daughter (Olwen) Megan Taylor became a professional figure skater and is fairly well documented. It's her father that's the mystery ??? ???
