Hello,

Thanks for the clarification on William/Wilbur mystery. I have the kids you mentioned, although I had Gerard and Donald as one person. Do you have any more info on these kids? Dates, marriages, etc?

;D Excellent! I will most definitely look into the Ulster Connection. I knew we had some kind, especially with Mary Ruth Slater-Greer (her husband was born in Antrim. I will continue my research. Thanks for correcting me with the Orange connection. I appreciate all your help! :D

J.J.
This info is indeed correct. I have been to Canadian National Archives and found their marriage certificate. The neat thing is, Thomas Slater and his wife Nancy Buchanan worked for the MacKenzie family in Kings County, NB. He was a laborer and she was a servant. She was 16, he was 22. Guess it was love at first sight? Hmmm

Still looking for his death certificate that might tell me his parents, but nothing so far. I have an article that talks of his death and being part of the Order of Orange. (masonic I imagine) But no info on parents or a death cert. Very discouraging. I am completely stumped and have no where else to look.

My great grandmother SWEARS we are from Scotland. She hated the British (sorry) but never said where they were from. Doing research on the Slaters, I have found that they were so many in Portknockie, Scotland and the Shetland Islands, etc. So many places, no money to travel and no contacts! Yikes! Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Lanarkshire / John & Gavin Lyle Lanark to USA to Canada
« on: Saturday 16 June 07 02:28 BST (UK)  »
:)I am looking for info on a relative of mine named John Lyle born about 1684 or so, possibly in Lanark, as his son Gavin was born there. He married Elizabeth Gordon (born March 9, 1684) on June 22, 1708 in Glasgow, Scotland.

They had four children, baby Gavin (who must have died young), Margaret, Gavin, and John (born March 9, 1714...hmmm, just noticed the dates).

I would like info on Margaret and John, because I do have the lineage of Gavin Lyle. If anyone knows their vital statistics, that would be wonderful! It would be great to trace their lines to! Thank you!

I would like to find info on John Lyle's birth and death dates, as well as his parents and ancestors. If anyone can provide this information, I would be very grateful.

Just a thought, but he also could have burned his hand quite badly at some point during his time in the service and felt more comfortable with a glove. I agree, I think it is a glove.

Thank you so much! What wonderful pictures! I appreciate that so much. What it must have looked like 100 years ago! I have found out through the marriage certificate of Mary Ruth Slater and James Greer that Mary's father was Thomas Slater as well. So now I have one more Slater to search for. I can only imagine he was born around 1800, if he was 25 years old when he had Thomas. Who knows.....there is a Thomas Slater on the Griffiths Valuation in 1865 or so. Can't remember exactly at this moment....

Thanks again and good hunting!!  :D ;D

Yes, Isaac Kellum married Elizabeth Hamilton.

Still seeing if I can get any more info on her, especially birth and death dates. I do know she was born in the 1880s sometime.  :) I'm fairly sure she was born in Cape Negro, Shelburne, Nova Scotia.

Have received great news from a person who helped with the Lyle family tree in Wisconsin. He has given me SO much info! He is also sending some copies of documents for me and I can't wait to get them!

Cheers,

Excellent! Thank you Tom! ;D :D :)
I will continue to investigate these dates and people. Don is sending over some info compiled by a woman in Nova Scotia who was head of a genealogical society and who did the Lyle name, so I can match her info with yours.

This is so exciting to be getting all this help and info. Thank goodness for the internet, eh?
