Thankyou for your help. He had already left her before her death when he realised they were not actually married. She left her money and furniture to her ex dressers - she was a well known opera singer, which is where she me Theodore, who was an orchestra leader. I know he 'remarried ' but nothing further. he was Russian so may have left the country.

Seems to be a marriage in Fulham 1910 Theodor Sverdloff and Elizabeth Leech.
Thankyou all for your help. Now know he did get married but her husband was still alive at time but unknown to her. he had been reported dead twice in Boer War. The child in 1915 is not her so there must have been other Sverdloffs about Elizabeth died in 1934 but can no record of Theo's death.

Jennifer

Many thanks, I did not know if they actually got married as Elizabeth's first husband, who had abandoned her, was still alive at this time. The family presumed she just announced they were married.

I am looking for any information about Theodore Sverdloff, a Russian Jew who lived and worked in the UK in the early 1900s He was a musician and orchestra leader and worked with the Carl Rosa opera company. At one time he lived with Elizabeth Burgess an opera singer with that company. I have photographs of him if anyone is interested.

I agree there is  marriage date query 1841/2 for Christian and Earnest. I am descended from James. I have photos of George, Isabella, Jane, James and also Maggie. I am not sure if she was Mary, Mary Anne or your ancestor Marjorie. Hopefully we can share more info when you return from holiday. Enjoy.

I have a Robert Littlejohn[1771 - 1845] m to Catherine Fraser in my family tree. He was the father of my GGGM Christian Littlejohn, who married Earnest Murrion in 1842. Is there a connection?

Very helpful info.  The Victorian police ranks show him to be a senior constable, which was four ranks down from inspector. I always thought he looked rather young in photo. I do have a pic when he was about 34 but not in uniform. My gran was obviously remembering wrongly. I have tried further to locate more police info but it is still proving tricky to find. Never mind I have loads of time to persevere. Thanks again.

Great to hear from you. My great grandfather was born in 1862 and from 1891 census I know he was a sargeant. By the 1901 census he was an inspector so the photo probably taken between those years as I think it was likely to celebrate his promotion. He died in 1915 but no idea when he retired as police record sources are not very forthcoming. I have attached the reverse for you. The writing on the back reads - My father, When inspector and Rusty's grandad. I could have removed the pencil but it is my mother's handwriting and I found that I could not do so, sorry. I was unable to access your other address.
