He was also a convict transported in 1819 so unfortunately the timing doesn't fit. I had also found this family and i've been trying to somehow tie it to mine

Hi Anna, thank you for that i haven't seen this before and i'm not sure exactly what it means lol if someone could explain it to me that would be great  :) The name Stowell appears in every generation of my family so i'm sure that you're stowell and mine must be related somehow it's not a common name.
thanks again

Somerset / Gilbert Marshall court records
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 07:00 BST (UK)  »
I need help   :( I'm trying to trace records of an ancestor who was a convict sent here to Australia.
His name was Gilbert Marshall and he was born around 1800 and from records of his transportation and some newspaper article from the Bristol newspapers from the time (supplied to me from a lovely member here) I've been able to see that he was convicted in Bristol (city) on the 3rd April 1819 and originally sentences to death which was then changed to transportation for 14 years. it also mentions Newgate prison and that the case was seen as a quarter session. I'm trying to find any reference to his parents names or any siblings that he might have had, i want to trace this tree back further but I'm stuck on him. If anyone can help in any small way or point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.
regards
Melissa

Somerset / Stowell/ Stawell Marshall
« on: Saturday 21 April 12 00:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong place but i'm not quite sure where to put this
I'm trying to trace the origins of a family name. Stowell Marshall ( could be spelt Stawell). The name keeps popping up in every generation along with Gilbert Marshall and i'm trying to track it down. the earliest record i can find is Stowell Gilbert Marshall born 1776 dies 22/5 1837 and was married to a Mary Gilbert in county of High Ham in 1796 she dies 14th sept 1854. i'm prety limited with information being all the way over in Australia so if anyone can help or point me in the right direction it would be grealy appreciated.
Thanks
Melissa
