Hello All
           Just wondering if you were still searching for these former players as Thomas Hughes was my uncle and Felix Hughes was my Grandfather

Armagh / More Hughes Family members from Armaghbrague near Keady
« on: Tuesday 26 November 13 22:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have managed to unearth another two sons of my Great , Great ,Great Grandfather Bernard Hughes from Armaghbrague  .Their details are ;
1 Henry Hughes born/baptised 6th August 1823 - Address Armaghbrague , Father Bernard Hughes ,Mother Brigid Malaghan , sponsors were James McGee and Eleon Mulholm
2 Bernard Hughes born/baptised 18th October 1825 -Address Armaghbrague , Father Bernard Hughes , Mother Brigid Malaghan , sponsors were Francis Campbell and Mary Malaghan

 I also have a Eug Hughes whose address was shown as Armaghbrague and Father Bernard Hughes but Mother is shown as Mary Hand . Date of Birth is 18th September 1825 ,the month before Bernard above so im thinking this is maybe another Hughes Family in the Armaghbrague area although I have never found any others before .(or same father and different mother )

 Another later addition was Catherine Hughes born 19th June 1842 who was the daughter of John Hughes of Armaghbrague (believed to be the son of Bernard snr) and Rose Hughes the sponsors were Pat McGee and Brigid McArdle

 Would love to hear from anyone who has any links to this family

I have managed to get a list of sponsors for my Great Grandfathers siblings and one of them is a Donnelly .The baptism was for my Gt Grandfathers sister Mary Hughes who was baptised on 1st September 1865 and her sponsors are shown as Henry Donnelly and Catherine Doyle . Other sponsors names on the list are Mark , Mary , Patrick , Michael and Margaret Murphy .Catherine , Mary , Patrick and Bridget Doyle . Margaret and James Moore and Patrick McArdle and Ann Lennon . In the notes section of the list J McKeagney , T Loy and P Corr are mentioned . Hope this may be of some help to you

Thanks all for your help . I had managed to find the one in Longford but nobody in the family seems to know of any Links there .   Susan ..thanks for your help also  its interesting that you say that the mother could have been single as we believe that may have been the case .....Why would this affect the registration ? or do you think that it may have been hidden ? . Margarets Mother was my Great Grandfathers sister and her name was Mary Hughes but Margaret was also a Hughes and apparently it was never discussed much in the family

I have managed to find another branch of my Hughes family from Armaghbrague but to prove the link 100% I need to find a birth for Margaret Hughes who was born to Mary Hughes in January 1917 but I cannot find any trace in any of the Index that I have searched ....Has anyone got any tips or can suggest any other resource .Ive tried Ancestry ,Emerald Ancestors and I.F.H.R .
        Margaret married Peter Haughey (although I don't have a date yet) and I cant even find any record of a marriage either. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

His Death Certificate shows his age as 84 in 1867 so this gives us a birth date of around 1783. I thought the James Donnelly might have been a son-in-law maybe . I don't know of any of the family settling in Glasgow i think my Great Grandfathers brother James may have been with him in Middlesbrough until at least 1911 but we don't have any other family now in this area (unless they have lost touch)plus on the death of Bernard Hughes b1867 in 1941 probate was granted to a James Hughes and James McParland who im assuming would be brother and cousin so im guessing that he returned to Armagh ...if indeed he ever left.  Sorry if i went a bit off track ...im confusing myself now

Thanks for the tip by the way .I used the land revision books, which are dated using the different coloured ink, to find out when the Family Farm passed from Bernard to his son James .This happened in 1867 and I used this date to narrow down all the results for a Bernard Hughes death for that year
