Thanks Steve
A lot of interesting information. Your data seem to overlap with what I have found but it looks as though we may have been using some different sources. I live in the Wellington CBD along the street from Parliament and only a short walk from our National Archives and the National Library which a lot over overseas genealogy stuff but so far I have been mostly using the Web.

I'll compare your Austalian Mannion/Manning details with what I've come across (eg in military records) and reply to you by Rootschat Personal Message. I don't want to clutter the Forum with too much detail.

Cheers
Norm

Thanks Steve
I'm descended through Lawrence's sister, Eileen (Kirk) and my mother was Ada Harris (nee Kirk). Most of what I know about the Mannions is about 4th hand and some of it, I suspect, is myth, eg that John M was killed by Aboriginals on the Victorian goldfields.

Hi Steve
Thank you and congratulations to you and to Roger Manning for your break-through in identifying the origins of Ellen, Catherine and Jeremiah Mannion/Manning and some of their forebears and haunts in in Killimor and Tynagh, Galway.

I am interested in tracing present-day descendants of Jeremiah and trying to throw some light on fate of his father, John Mannion I have found a few references to Mannions living in Sebastopol who look like possible descendants but before going further I thought I should try to find out whether you had already covered this ground. Roger, in his fascinating description of your joint visit to Killimor and Tynagh has said that you had found references to Jeremiah in Australian records.

On and off for about 15 years I had been looking at some of the same records that you and Roger were researching and have also been to Galway and Ballarat but had come up against dead ends. I didn't know about the 'Jeremiah” and “Keary” variants and didn't make much progress.

I have also seen you other posts on Rootschat and on the Irishtourist website.

I would be grateful for any further information.  My email address is nmnharris(at)gmail.com
